Hello I just tried a test render using the CausticRingFast.lws with the BRDF.p applied to the gold surface, then I placed a null in the scene for Digital Confusion.p and selected the null as the target. When I tried to render LW crashed. And it keeps happening...
Could some one please recreate this scene to confirm my crash or bug. I am going mental as I have to render out a job for my client by Monday.
Thankyou

hello is anyone there?

Hi luka,
Haven't tried recreating the scene, but can tell you that, BRDF in previous versions caused a crash in conjunction with caustics.
Sounds like its not fixed!

Hi Luka,
Irrespective of the null for Digital Confusion, adding BRDF to the gold surface for that scene does crash Lightwave under OSX. I think caustics and BRDF definitely don't mix..

Hello Newtek please help
Is it possible to check the DC + BRDF + CAUSTICS bug. As I want to use this combination on some renders.
Please.

Hello Newtek
I think it is time to make caustics and BRDF mix

is there any chance to talk to a newtek programmer about this dilema

Hi is there any chance to talk to a newtek programmer about this dilema

Poor Luka, apparently, nobody cares about... I would love to help, but I am already in a middle of a jam with X_DOF......

well I will just keep trying, until someone is free. Or shall I just wait until you are ready?

can you render them separately and composite them?

OK, I was waiting to duplicate this, but haven't been able too. Please describe your system. Also, I assume you don't mean BRDF.p, since that doesn't exist.

hi Arnie thanks for taking the time to answer,
I have a g4 500 1.2GB ram OS10.1.4
I load the caustic test scene I apply the BRDF shader to the caustic ring texture using anisotropic shading, I then test render and bang. Lightwave crashes I can email you the setup if you want.

I get an instantaneous crash as well.
DP800, 10.1.4, LW7.5, 1.5GB RAM.

hey Toby. I can't render them out seperately as there is no way of creating a test render. It's a bit hard to render out the caustics seperateley when you don't know what it's going to look like reacting on your surface or environment

OK, on a different machine, it crashes as soon as I even apply BRDF... hmmm

hi Arnie are you still hmmmming?

Yeah.. it looks pretty broken. Skip the BRDF.

do you have any suggestions or hacks for this dilema?

Wait 'till Lightwave 8???

HI Arnie I was just wondering if LW tech team are aware of the BRDF shader bug?

Arnie said:

I think you could take that as an acknowledgment of the bug.
I was wondering when this issue would pop up on the threads again. If you're making reflective surfaces, such as the paint work of a car, you need the BRDF plug-in to make these surfaces realistic.
Well, at least we know that Newtek is a aware of this bug, unlike the Quicktime frame rate bug (which generated no response from NT). However this bug doesn't require a Lightwave patch to solve it. All it needs is for the plug-in to be fixed and posted on Newtek's website for download.

Well I think this is a reasonable amount of time for some response?

Hi Beam,
BRDF isn't a plugin (although it behaves as if it is one). It's built into the application directly and will need a full program update before it can work consistently again..

I have the same problem so it´s confirmed...we have bugs!
Maybe we could use this for a while
