Has anyone updated to OSX 10.2.3 yet? It fixes some issues with ATI 128 cards, and also includes OpenGL 1.4. I'd recommend downloading the stand-alone installer rather than using the automatic updater:

I'd be interested to hear anyone's comments about this new update.

Sorry, I should stop using the Chimera browser. It has the weird habbit of changing your thread topic to your name.
Also, Apple seems to be a bit slow in getting it's OSX 10.2.3 installer online.

I've never had a single problem with the automatic downloader - it's happily installing 10.2.3 right now...

Hi Darthmole. Let us know if you find any differences with the new OS.

Hi Beam - I'm stuck in work at the moment (crappy G4, OS frickin' 9), but I had a very quick look this morning and it seemed fine. LW felt a bit snappier in the OpenGL department, but it's always hard to tell qualitatively.
However, I did a very quick test render (Reflective Things Radiosity) and it was a shade slower than before - few tenths of a second; nothing to worry about. I'll check again later.

I recently installed 10.2.3 and have been experiencing no problems thus far.
No visible speed improvements in Lightwave for me - but it seems to have solved other speed issues specifically with our server connection here... therefore I am a happy camper with this rev so far.

OpenGL looks great, but I'm still dealing with the G4 Laptop problems. After a few operation Lightwave does not refresh views without logging out. Great that Apple is continuing to update there software, too bad Newtek can't give it's users the same help. Guess I'm still stuck back in 9 while questioning my future with Lightwave.

Sounds like more of an OS or video issue rather than a Lightwave issue... though I am purplexed as to why a G4 laptop is giving you so much trouble with refreshing views.
I understand your frustration... I had the same problem with a PC and 3dsMax two years ago... turned out to be the video card I was sporting.
...yet again, I'm purplexed about your issue in that I've not heard of anyone else having that problem on their G4 laptop - or have they?

There was thread some time back here in the forums. Newtek claims said it's the display drivers but has not followed up with solutions as they had suggested they were working on the problem. And unfortunatly Newtek updates tend to be few and far between unless it's the Toaster. It's just frustrating to see how great OGL looks and then have it crap out on you.

I'am running it right now on a G4 laptop, and have been for about 4 weeks, i've never had any problems, it run's really well.
| |
Wizlon, which G4 laptop have you been running it on? The problem seems to be with 400Mhz and 500Mhz (First Generation) Tibooks. If you've got it running on one of those, with 10.2.X I'd love to know.

Hi Peter, sorry for the delay i've been on holiday, it's a 667mhz, running OSX.2

Hi Beam i also use chimera, dont have those problems u mentioned (name..topic)

The problem with the earlier TiBooks (and the 2001 iBooks) is video drivers/hw/memory. This is not something Newtek can solve, unfortunately. At best, you have an 8MB ATI Rage Mobility, which is a low-power, feature-hamstrung version of the old Rage 128 cards. Unless you are a skilled tech and want to spend some time hunting down a newer MLB for the TiBook on eBay, tearing apart your machine and upgrading the hardware, you are going to be stuck with these problems.
