Not sure it's worth the trouble any more trying to get Lightwave 6.5 to work on XP. Finally got beyond the dongle problem but now when I start Modeler or Layout they both hang. Layout says connecting to hub when it hangs. Modeler just hangs. So frustrating. Anyone really know what might be going on? I've upgraded to 6.5 from 6.0. Installed the Sentinel drivers, checked printer port says ECP.I have a 1.4meg pc with a Gforce 2 graphics card. I'll even send $5 to the person who can get this thing to work.

weird, woudlnt let me post..... hopefully this isnt doubled...
anywho, sounds like a clasic TCP/IP problem.
If your running a firewall, let the hub, layout
and Modeler act as servers (i;m using zone alarm so I dunno if that terminology is correct in
whatever one you may be running) - basically
let them out :-)
if that doesnt work, check your network configuration to see if you have tcp/ip enabled
on that particular computer.
if that doesnt work, try this. open the HUb. Layout and Modeler shortcuts and put -0 in them, like this:
C:\Lightwave_7.5\Programs\LightWav.exe -0 -cC:\Lightwave_7.5\Configs
this will dissable the hub completely.
the -cC:\ stuff is to define a specific path
where Lightwave will look for its config files
(I just find it easier than going to the documents and settings folder. you can ignore that
part. theres 1 space between the -0 and the -cC:\
stuff in case the forum wordwraps the line).
if that doesnt work, well I have no idea. Normally I'd say probably a Graphic card issue (shouldnt be the case with a GF2 - its old but suitable).
I'm assuming 1.4 meg is actually a 1.4 gig
processor? or is that the memory it has?
Generally Lightwave takes all the processor and memory power you can give it unless you fiddle with its cpu priority state - but thats all asides, that shouldnt be influencing boot up
unless you have 1.4 megabytes of memory, in which
case you must be running a vic 20 :-)

hope this helps.

yeah,
Will is right. I disabled my hub with the -0 shortcut when I first got 6.5 and haven't turned it on again and haven't had a problem. You also have to have a network client and I think a network card installed to get the hub to work.
good luck.

I will give that a shot when I get home tonight. Going to keep my fingers crossed this is it this time!

if you dont have a network card install the Microsoft Loopback Adapter. its a software
network card emulator.
add new hardware, chose from a list, select
Network Cards, Microsoft, ms loopback adapter.

Just a thought...
Doesnt' XP have some "idiot proof" firewall technology built into it, which will restrict TCP communication on the system?
Could this be it?
I don't run XP so if anyone knows where to shut this off and can discribe it... I will send you the other 2.50$

Basically it is a firewall problem...
Are you running ZoneAlarm?
Even after you close ZoneAlarm, it keeps TrueVector monitor on...
And this will cause the exact problem you describe. Go to Task Manager and close vsmon.exe
Or you could disable the hub...
Hey Presto! problem solved....
Where's my 5 bucks....
Hope it helps.

Got sidetracked last night but am going to try all the suggestions this weekend and will announce the winner. Of course still will be open for any more suggestions. To answer a few questions that were asked here:
1. I am not running ZoneAlarm.
2. Correct spec is 1.4gig but I did love my Vic 20
3. No I am not running a firewall of any type.
Thanks for all the replies.

you probably dont have the tcp/ip service added,
so, to add TCP/IP:
go into Add or Remove Programs, under Add or remove Windows Components select Network Serices
and push the details button. under that select Simple TCP/IP Service.
anyways do let us know if it all works :-)

Hurray! Finally got Lightwave and XP working together. Before I announce the winner, I would like to thank everyone for their support. Without experts out there like you we morons would have no where to turn. We would probably still trying to figure out our Vic 20's. Now lets get to our winner. For role as best supporting Lightwave person the award goes to Will Cameron. We all remember Will as he played an early lead in the drama "Why Doesn't My Lightwave work on XP". And then he followed that being in the sequel "My Lightwave Still Doesn't Work". Congrats to Will and if he wants to email his address to me I will happily send out his $5000 award. Ooops I mean $5 award. By the way the solution was to disable the Hub. Thanks again for everyone's help.

heh, no reward required.
Just help out the next person that asks something you know about :-)

should be no diferance as far as Lightwave is concerned.
what issues are you having? If you scan the XP threads you'll probably find your problem.

Maybe I should write a faq :-)

Will..
Ive tried everything on all the posts of XP and the dongle issue but I cant get mine running.
Lightwave AND Aura will start sometimes and sometimes not.
I did the medic thing from rainbow and it says it sees the dongle but not Lightwave and Aura they dont see it.
"Hardware lock not found,Please call Newtek to get the License key".
I did the folders thing, the reinstall thing, the reg edit thing, everything and still I'm setting here farting around with this stupid dongle when I should be working.....
It sucks man.....
