How to animate Lights - On or Off and Intensity

NewTek Forum: LightWave 3D®: General Support: How to animate Lights - On or Off and Intensity

I am using Lightwave 7.5 and I have a light that I would like to animate On or Off and the Intensity at different times in the time line.

I added a light, then I moved to the frames that I wanted to have the Light On or Off and the Intensity, but I did not see any keys created.

Could someone point me to the right direction.

Thanks

Marco,

In the light properties panel you'll see an E button next to your light intensity. If you click that, it will bring you into the graph editor. This is where you set keys for the intensity of the light.

Thank you. Since I had the Audo Key On, I assumed that all I needed to do was to go to a frame, change the Light Property Intensity and it would automatically create a frame for me.

Is this possible or E button is the only way?

Marco

No, you can't do it that way. You have to use the graph editor.

One way you can check that, and this applies to anything really. Just keep the light properties panel open and on top, move to frame 30 with auto key on, and change the intensity to 0%. If you now scrub through frames 1-30 on the scrub bar, you'll see that the light intensity does not change. If it did work, you would see it smoothly change from 0 to 100 as you moved the scrub bar. Once you set it up in the graph editor, you'll see the numbers change.

Ok. I just need to get used to it. I am switching from a software called Animation Masters and I could set all of the properties that way. I know in 3D Studio I could do the same.

Do you think this could be a new feature?

Thanks.

Marco, I believe that you can do that by tying the light intensity to a slider.

I do not know how to tie a Light Intensity to a slider. I am going to try to figure it out

Thanks.
