My appologies for posting this here, but this the only place that one can get results.
Here is my dilemma (or perhaps I should say Catch-22):
Suddenly I have lost the use of my HP DVD-Rom and my Toshiba CD-Rom. Both drives are recognized in the "System, hardware,Device Manager", but are not recognized in the "My Computer" window...hence, I have lost the drivers. This necessitates the re-installing of Windows 2K Pro. Now here's the rub,
I can't re-install the CD because I don't have use of my CD drives. What is a poor boy to do?
I e-mailed Hewlett-Packard yesterday, still no response. Windows is a joke! So, I turn to you..."A friend in need, is a friend indeed!"

It was Picard, not Kirk.

Problem has been solved...without the help of Hewlett-Packard or Windows. Deductive reasoning and intuitive logic held sway (I grabbed a Cognac and watched a movie and let the computer fix itself.) For those planning on offering words of wisdom.......later. - jim
