I'm halfway through a head model and suddenly all my viewport grids have started coming and going as they please. I move a point and they disappear. I move inside a viewport and they come back. I change the render style and they disappear. It's weird. Any ideas why it's happening?

Thanks

OK, so I trashed the prefs. This did nothing to stop the problem. So, I ran the uninstaller and reinstalled lightwave, but the problem persists. I've tried setting independent display options for each viewport, but end up with the same problem. Usually the grids disappear or reappear when I hit the show cages checkbox.

Could I have a corrupt .lwo file? I loaded a different model and had the same problem, but only for a moment. After which it seemed to go away.

thanks again

When you post a question you should list the details of your system.

Having said that, I'd guess you're probably using OS X 10.2 (Jaguar), as this fault often happens with Jaguar.

I don't know if there's much you can do about it. Upgrade your OS to the latest version, 10.2.3 (10.2.4 is due for imminent release). I thought that 10.2.3 may have minimized the fault, though I'm not 100% sure.

It's also possible that some graphics cards produce the fault more than others.

I have a G4 450 with 896mb of RAM, a Radeon 8500 graphics card and am running OS X 10.2.3. What surprises me is I have been running this same setup since 10.2.3 came out, and never experienced this problem before. Could this be an indication of my graphics card failing?

thanks for the help

Hi Jason. I'm using an ATI9000 on a Dual 1GHz DDR G4 and started getting the disappearing grid after migrating to Jaguar. I don't think any graphics cards are failing, and don't think it's got anything to do with preference files, either. It must be something that was induced by Jaguar.

I'm not sure whether it's something that should be fixed by Apple, or more likely Newtek. You'll just have to hang in there!

Thanks. I guess as long as it's not wrecking my models I can deal.

Is it me, or is Newtek the only company on the planet that never patches their software?

Thanks again

Hi Jason,

I'm using 8500 & 10.2.3, too. You could go to > Display Options> Interface, and turn on the 'Simple Wireframe Points' option, then you'll get your grids back to normal (backdrops, too). Someone in this discussion group has mentioned about this issue long time ago, it works.

Note: This trick is not perfect, after turning that option on, I couldn't select points in the perspective view port with shadings. I need to turn that off while refining my models.

Many thanks to the guy who discover this :)

Hey thanks, that seems to work (but hey, give me an hour and I'll cause another problem!). And, I am still able to select points in perspective viewport with all shading options.

Thanks a lot! Much appreciated!!
