i'm configuring a new mac to purchase and was wondering if anyone has opinions, recommendations, problems etc with the graphic cards. i can go with the ati 9000 as configured, or NVidia GeForce 4 titanium for an extra $250. 64mb vs 128 respectivly. any input would be appreciated.

If you have to do a job with your new computer, jump in and buy it. There is some speculation on the Mac rumor sites that Apple will release new 1.4GHz G4 machines around the first week of February. Then again, you can't always trust rumors!

oh BOY! Brand-new, slightly faster Macs!!!!!

jack, the Gf4 titanium, doe s not have proper drivers, and is generally percived as a dissapointment. even though the TI has 128mb only 64 mb are enabled on the mac by current drivers.
i have an older gf3 and the ti and you cannot tell the diff....save yer money.

thanks for the input. i'll probably be still drafting my business plan to present to the wife into february, so i'll wait and see if anything develops.
;-)
seems like the extra $250 would be better spent on something else if the drivers aren't there yet.

Now that the dual 1.42s have been anounced (with ATI 9700s and GF4 Ti), I wonder if the drivers are in 10.2.4?

"longchin" Do you have dual monitors hooked up to your Ti card? I wonder if the reason you only access 64MB is because the card is a dual-head, set up for 64MB per port?
As far as the 9700, I haven't seen them listed as "shipping" anywhere. Even at apple the BTO option is still "coming soon" and I wouldn't hold my breath. Sometimes ATI's version of "coming soon" is 6 months from now...

michael,
nope only one22"cinemadisplay...my second monitor, a viewsonic va520
runs off of an old ATI nexus 128(32 mb/pci) just popped it in, no drivers etc....osx just runs it fine.
and it not just me the gf4 TI is not working for.

Thanks. Have you tried connecting both to the Ti? Again, I ask because even though other people may be having the same issue, it may be a design specification, not a bug (fine line, I know). Let me know if
(A) you can connect two monitors to the Ti
(B) each monitor gets 64 MB of VRAM, or if they are splitting to 32.
I'd appreciate it.
I've been thinking about a newer, more powerful card, and the Ti _was_ on my list, but not if so many people have problems. I don't need a $400 card providing me a $200 upgrade...
