This should be an easy one. I would like to know how to select the rendered method used to render the viewports. It seems like lightwave is using software rendering by default (its unreasonably slow), and id like to change that to openGL or directX, whatever works best. Oh yeah and im using a trial version of lightwave 7 from a 3dworld cover CD.

I think you already got the answer to this on CGTalk, but for anyone else out there also confused by the issue:

LightWave only uses OpenGL for viewport rendering, so speed issues with the display are probably down to either your graphics card or the drivers you use for it.

Ganbatte with LightWave, and on a personal note, speaking as an ex-editor of 3D World, I also think it's great that that's where you got the Discovery edition from... :)

noob, if lightwave doesnt seem to want to switch to openGL, then you have a software driver problem. when i was running lw on win2k with a firegl 1000 pro, lw was using the software renderer because i had bad / non-existent firegl drivers for win2k.

the manual has an explanation on this too.
