has anybody used micron memory before?
I am trying to max out my G4 DP867 and have been adviced by crucial technology.com that I will need to remove the current 256mb module and insert 3x512MB SDRAM, (PC133 SDRAM, PC133 • CL=3 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 7.5ns • 3.3V • 64Meg x 64)
the modules are compatibility guaranteed and are at a very reasonable price ($60 each). Anyone have any experience with these? If not does anyone envisage any probs? please help.

just got some more info. The apple site has the Apple Memory Module - 512MB PC2100 SDRAM DDR 266. This is DDR 266 as opposed to the pc133 above but is over three times in price. Is the extra oomph justifiable?

I think that this is a little scammage...anytime I've called Apple with OSX issues, they ask me if I have any non-Apple-installed RAM, then instantly blame everything on that..

while I can understand their unwillingness to 'support' 3rd party devices, I don't respect their poor diagnostics tools, lazy troubleshooting, and knee-jerk tendancy to lay all problems on 3rd party gear.

So, if you buy your RAM from Apple, you pay thru the ear, and get the benefit of supposedly extensive testing which ensures compatibility.

sumpin' seems fishy about this to me..as though they may be trying to strongarm people into BTO options at a premium??

maybe?

I thought the extra speed afforded the new DDR RAM didn't make much difference in the newer Macs because the main board wasn't designed with a fast enough bus (or something). So as long as the RAM actually works, it's probably best to save some $$...

(Apple's RAM is WAY overpriced - I saved hundreds by buying my DP800 with as little RAM as possible, and buying 3rd party stuff. No problems here...)

cheers for the response guys. I think i will be placing my order tomorrow for the cheaper pc133 ram even if I have to forego the module that is already installed.

will pc133 ram work in a machine that is supposed to take pc2700 ddr ram? I thought that it wouldn't, but i'm no expert. ramseeker.com shows 512mb pc2700 modules for as low as $88.

just found out a bit more about this. No the pc133 will not work. However I do not think that the pc2700 will work either in the dual 867 G4. This G4 needs pc2100 for it to work..... I dont fully understand it but slowly and surely.
