Great Dan!

Did you read that ridiculous thread on CG Talk about you ditching LightWave?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Beam Tracer (Beamtracer) (203.109.241.109) on Thursday, January 30, 2003 - 04:19 am:

Hmmm. That explains the banter with Larry SplineGod Shultz on a previous thread.

There's not much information given about this course. How many hours of video are there? (Assuming it is video). What format are the videos in?

I guess it's a good thing to have multiple people creating video tutorials for Lightwavers. Some other 3D applications don't have any.

There are some pretty ridiculous threads that pop up sometimes on the various forums. :)

There will be 4 CD's, with Quicktime movies.
A sample will be posted within the week.

Sounds good! I said once before that a course that gives a good grounding in the basics of Lightwave would be worthwhile.

Thanks Beam -
your emails are always appreciated.

LightWave Direct's signature series is the grounding for really getting work done in LightWave. Our next series will venture into particles, hypervoxels, compositing, bones, etc.

While we'll show how bones can be used, I recommend Larry Shultz's course for Character Animation. Our techniques in LightWave Direct will show you how useful and powerful bones are for everything not character - you'd be very surprised how useful these tools are.

We plan on releasing around NAB (I'll probably have some with me when I'm out there). There is introductory pricing before the product ships.

Regards,
Dan

Hells teeth - $695.00 just for the starter CD`s - and this is the special introductory price ?. I would want to know "exactly" what I`m getting for my hard earned cash before shelling out this sort of money. It just so happens I`m looking for some decent training videos after just purchasing Lightwave 7.5, perhaps a more detailed description on your site would be helpful.

Andy

The website will change soon -
This isn't just a few tutorials - it's a full course. There will be more than 30 hours of learning, probably more by the time it ships. There will be many CD's, not just one. Our studio course is $845 for two days, just 10 hours of learning. The release price on the courseware CD's will be $795. We have quite a few schools interested already, as they don't have the time and resources to come to Chicago for hands-on studio training. While they have the videos, they need a course from the ground up, and that's what we're offering.

Thanks,
Dan

I have used bones successfully in landscape modeling recently, to create "in camera" the needed bulges and hills on a displaced plane.
Was cool :)

Heres a question? Like in Larry's courses will there be any type of support or feedback on Tutorials that you go through in the course?

Larry on FXAcademy do you still offer the Intro course. I am in need of a very beginnier course with some good online interaction with models I would create. I am just getting into this stuff and I really do not have a good foundation to what I want to create; when i do create models, skins ect... I do not know how to go about it.

I know the what the tools do (sorta), and my way around but as far as creating fully functional models of what ever is my main problem.

Jason,
there's always support - directly with me. So, yes. We'll be starting a forum as well.

We will be reworking our site and pricing this week. There is a full beginner's course, and then a full intermediate course. The new site coming soon is www.3dgarage.com.

Thanks,
Dan

Hmmm... 3dgarage.com? Sounds similiar to dvgarage.com (who also do texturing tutorial vids, and the like) - Are you teaming up with Alex and the guys at dvgarage.com perchance? or just it was a cool name at the time?

Maybe Larry can also set up a site called cggarage.com then we'll have a whole 'workshop' of websites to visit for 3D training! Narf! Narf! :)

Cool stuff! Can't wait to check it out...

CG Garage sounded too wordy.

DV Garage is great, but my 3D Garage is not affiliated. Although, we're open for suggestions.

New product pricing:

"3D Garage: LightWave 3D 7.5 Signature Courseware"
Intro $395
Release $495 (April 6, 2003)

:) Dan

Site should be up in a few days.

Dan
