hi
I've just had a seat of lightscape kindly donated from a studio in usa and i'm looking into using it along side lightwave..i can see there's a plugin for lightwave 5.6 for lightscape for import and export but nothing for lightwave 7.5

I realise that you can save from 7.5 as a lw5 object and that you can export as a 5.6 scene from lightwave 7.5...so with these options can i use lightscape with lightwave 7.5 or do i need to buy a second hand lightwave 5.6 to get it up n running?

any workarounds would be good too.

as a side note it's a very sad day to hear about the tragidy of the space shuttle.

cheers

Hi Steve,

just curious, how do you want to use Lightscape together with Lightwave ? I'm not sure about the speed of LS compared to LW, but the rendering quality is imho better in LW than in the old LS, not to forget that you dont have to modell that precise. And LW has a 128Bit colorspace which is additionally a big quality plus for LW.
But if you do still pictures you can use the front projection method to get a LS raydiosity into LW, just look at my tutorial at .

hi
i'd like it to work like it did in lw5.6 where you can expoert your model as a .lp file into lightscape then run radiosity in lightscape then export from lightscape and import that back into lightwave for any animation/bump mapping in lightwave but with the solution from lightscape present....the plugins available are only for lightwave 5.6...which i do not have..i only have lightwave7/7.5

Hi Steve,

i think since LW has now its own raydiosity engine, which can't save the raydiosity solution, its not possible to work like with the old version.

steve,

I tried every way to get Lightscape working with Lightwave, but it's not possible till now to get the saved Lightscape solution back into Lightwave (as far as I know ...) For interiors just model in Lightwave and render in Lightscape - still looks better (especially for architecture), but lacks bump mapping, etc.

I talked with some people who told me that it shouldn't be a big problem to make a converter for Lightwave, because the solution is saved as a simple shader in the lightwave model (speaking of version 5.6), but no one really seems to care ... : ((

Ingo,

quality of Lightscape in interior is still not surpassed by any other program, because you can use IES files (exact Lighting data) and it simply looks instantly good and realistic. It's really not a big problem to model for Lightscape, you just have to avoid some nasty stuff (f.e. overlapping polys, etc.). It's a pity Autodesk killed Lightscape, because the VIZ / MAX don't have exactly the same radiosity engine integrated.

If Newtek would incorporate solution saving, IES lighting data and additional LS features like stopping and resuming radiosity calculation Lightwave would be even better for interior renderings.

see ya

Hallo

Steve

We are working with LightWave and LightScape in both ways almost every day, and it's works (at least with lw5.6).

Contact NewTek for a copy of lw 5.6 (if you are a registered lw customer, they will send you a copy for free).

If you have any troubles, feel free to contact me.

Richie

Thanks

i'll let you know when they reply...BTW is tech support the people you contacted or should i approach someone else?
