i see it mentioned in coversation here but there's nothing in the manual [index] or in the inside lw 7.5 book [index]....i do remember something on it when i used to have inspire 3e [1998-1999]..so did it vanish in lw 7?

Check for the MetaForm.p plugin in your Legacy_Plugins/Modeler folder, and add it just like any other plug. It's basically another version of SubDivide tool, but work with N-sided poly, by first tripling (and I think it makes quads wherever it can, if I'm not mistaken) them for you. It's kind of nice for an alternate look to subdividing, with the convenience of having it deal with n-gons on the fly.
