Ok, I spent the past 45 minutes trying to get an updated model into a lightwave scene file. Here is what I did, I opened the object file in modeler, I added a layer, then altered it and added some morph files. I go back to Layout and load the scene file and the new layer doesn't show up. So I save the object in layout and go back to modeler and open the object file again, and the changes are there, why can't I see them???

I am using 6.5b, I have already closed the hub and then started layout again and no go. Any ideas???

Yes I did a search through the Lightwave forum, only thing close is a Mac. Have I asked an unanswerable question?? Anyway, maybe I should give even more detail to my question.

I am currently using windows 2000 with an AMD 1800+XP running 768mb pc2900 (333 bus) DDR using a GeForce4 ti4200 (64mbddr).

I have modeled a stand and a tank, each or individual objects. The stand has 5 layers, each parented to the 1st layer. The tank has 3 layers, each parented to the 1st layer. Each layer has it's own name. In the scene I created a null object and loaded the tank and stand objects. I then parented the tank to the stand, and then the stand to the null. I then duplicated the stand and tank 2 more times and parented them to he null as well.

Now all is well until I realized I needed some liquid in the tank, which is transparent by the way. Not only did I need liquid but I needed it to look like it was decreasing. I loaded my tank object into modeler and hollowed out the inside of the tank, and then created liquid. This created a 4th layer to my object file. I then created an endomorph of the liquid changing in height. I couldn't use the size command because the tank is cylindrical and on it's side.

After I finish this I save it and go back to layout, only to find it hasn't brought in my new layer!! ahh!! So I close modeler and check layout still nadda. Ok, so I close layout and close the hub. Open Layout and load the scene and still nothing. My 4th layer still won't come in.

So I thought maybe I did work on the wrong object, and in layout saved the object file and loaded it in modeler, the layer 4 is there, just as I left it. So scratching my head I go back to Layout and this time select my tank and push F12 (for the goto Modeler) and it loads the tank object with the 4th layer.

Ok now I am really confused. So I check my scene editor really close for this missing layer, nothing there. I even go and look at 0,0,0 thinking maybe it lost it's parent I am missing it in the list. Nope not there either.

When I load the object as a new object file it comes in with all 4 layers. I also see that I can simply parent my 4th layer to my current object and delete the new object I loaded, but that could cause problems down the road if Lightwave descides it's going to finally load my 4th layer on my object.

So that is why I am here, asking the lightwave community, what is happening to my model?? When I searched the forums, a few things came up for Mac, and the solutions didn't help me, as well as the fact I am using a PC and not a MAC.

Anyone out there having this problem??

Yes, I have the problem too. It seems Layout doesn't know when you add layers. You have to delete the original object from the scene and load it in again. Your newer object should show up. Or you could save your water as a new object and load it in and parent it too the tank.

Try opening the scene in Layout first, then switch to modeler, under the object drop-down select the model, go back to layout and see if the model is updated. This works for me sometimes. Also, in modeller, try selecting "synchronize with layout". Also, I've noticed that if you reorganize layers or delete layers, layout will not get rid of blank layers and you have to clear them yourself.
