I'm going crazy and need some help.
Disclaimer: I'm a total newbie at this so there might be something simple to fix my problem but I'm unaware of it. Hence my question to you guys. :D
I'm trying to import a HL model (TFC Soldier in this case) and can't get it to work. Well I get it to work sort of.
I'm using MilkShape. I decompile the HL model file and load the stock soldier model. I then rotate his legs out so he's in that spread eagle anatomical position with arms out which makes for a good starting point.
Here's where the trouble starts. Milkshape has a LWO export which works, but something in the model file is wacky and the soldier's face is missing ONE poly. Simple enough I select the 3 points and make one. But it doesn't map properly. I set the surface to the correct map name and it places the wrong part of the map in the new poly so it looks wierd.
I found a MilkShape plugin that is a newer LWO exporter. Used it, got the same missing poly, made the new one, set the surface and BAM it works. Problem is, the whole texture map is off. I'm seeing the grey background that's in the map coming up on the model. In other words, the sizing of the map to the model seems small so the texture doesn't fit properly and it's all out of whack and I'm seeing parts of the map you're not supposed to.
I'm guessing that going with the stock MilkShape exporter is going to be easier since the map is good but this one poly is driving me crazy. I think it has to do with the stock export doing a texture map, not a UV map which the plugin version is doing.
Does anyone have a different tool that works like a charm or any suggestions to fix my problem?
Thanks in advance,
CB

Ugh, nevermind.
I reloaded everything and tried the standard LWO export again and now it works.....
Note to self: Have computer exorcised.
