I've finally recieved my copy of Lightwave from Safe Harbor (the demo from Newtek never arrived!), and I'm having problems with the online manuals.

When I try opening the "Lightwave 7.5 Online Docs" I get an error message saying "There was an error opening the document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." When I try opening the "MotionMixer Docs" I get a blank page. I'm using Acrobat Reader 5.0 and have tried it on two different computers, but no luck. Only the "Lightwave 7.5 Update Docs" open correctly.

Did I get a corrupt disc (it's a CD-R!)? Anybody else having these problems with Acrobat Reader 5.0 opening these files?

Go here and download a fresh copy.

Thanks. I'm aware that the manual is available for download and I know it works, but I want to know why the copy that shipped on the CD isn't working. I'm worried that there might be other corrupted files on the CD, so I'd like to find out whether it's a problem with the CD image or a problem with Acrobat 5.0. I'm looking for comments from people who are either having or not having the same problem.

I had the same problem. But I discovered that there are two copies of the documentation on the CD. The ones that get installed seem to be the ones from Install_Lightwave\Online_Docs, and have the problem you described. But also on the disc is a folder called Online_Documentation (in the root of the CD) that contains copies that are dated 7/18/2001 instead of 7/31/2001. Those copies work fine. So I just copied them over to my hard drive (C:\Lightwave\Online_Docs) and now everything works.

Well, that worked. It's a shame that the files that are installed to HD don't work with Acrobat 5.0 (I'd love to know why, Newtek), but at least I know I'm not the only one with the problem. Thanks to both of you for your help.
