Macintosh Preference redirect:

The base premise here is that you want to have LW6.5b and LW7 on the same machine playing nicely. These instructions assume the the machine in question
already had LW6.5 and LW7 installed and you now want to separate their preferences.

We will start under OS9:

1)
Go to Macintosh HD:system folder:preferences
and find these files
LightWave Layout 3 Prefs
LightWave Modeler 3 Prefs
LightWave Extensions 3 Prefs
LightWave Hub Prefs

2)
now delete them.

3)
Go to your LightWave 3d 6.5 folder and make a new folder called "lwprefs"

4)
Go to MacintoshHD:LightWave 3D 6.5:Backup Configs
and run the "Init Configs" application this will create a definite set of default Pref files for LW6.5b.
Go back to the Preferences folder and this time cut the Prefs and paste them in your newly created "lwprefs" folder
(or drag them over if you have multiple windows open).

5)
Now go to MacintoshHD:LightWave 3D 6.5:Programs
look for these files
Layout cmdline
Modeler cmdline

6)
If your hub is still disabled then you may see a value of "-0" click in the spot behind the "-0" and put a space
after it and enter the following:
-c"Macintosh HD:LightWave 3D 6.5:lwprefs"
NOTE:use the quotation marks " " if your folder names have spaces in them.

7)
Once you have entered in the path for both modeler and layout then save the changes and close the files.

Follow the same process for the "LightWave 3D 7.0" folder.

Set up under OSX:
1)
Go to Macintowsh HD:users:yourprofile:library:preferences
and finde these filesLightWave Layout 3 Prefs
LightWave Modeler 3 Prefs
LightWave Extensions 3 Prefs
LightWave Hub Prefs

2)
follow steps 3-7 from above.

Again repeat the process for LW7.

Things to keep in mind:
*If you ever have to trash the preferences run the Init Config for the appropriate application and then cut and paste
to the right folder. The "init config" will generate the new prefs in the old location.

*If you let LightWave 7 install itself to it's default location then it should be located in the appropriate Applications
folder
* The process outlined above is aimed at having both versions redirected because LightWave will always set its priority to the old preferences directory. Which it why you do not want to leave any copies of the Prefs left in the old directory by the time you are done.
