Has anybody else noticed that right after you install 7b you can't save in any QuickTime formats.. The error claims that that the Qttools.p file can not be read...
So I copied the Qttools.p file from the 7 CD and it works... Reinstall 7b and it does not...
I am happy with this solution so far, but does anybody know if there is a major difference (aside from a few bytes and the creation date) between these two files...
I suppose what I am really asking is; does 7b improve any rendering under QT or am I not losing anything by using the old plugin?

The qttools.p for 7b should be identical to that for 7.0, but it seems to have gotten corrupted soemwhere along the way.

Yep,
I've noticed the exact same thing. I'm running 7.0b on OS9.1. There are also quite a few other plugins that won't run, mostly in the 'Effects' folder. Most of the Image Filter plugins won't run because Lightwave 'can't start' them. If I try to manually add these plugins (including QTTools) such as Bloom and Virtual Dark Room, LW says that '0 plugins were found in 2 files' or something similar.
This is a shame, particularly the QT problem, although I hardly ever create movie files from LW, except VR's. It does seem that adding back in the plugin from 7.0 sorts the problem out however. I'm not sure if this is a bad idea or not.

It sounds like something other than random bad luck hosed alot of the plugins in the 7b installer. The "can't start" problem may be due to the config looking in the wrong place for the plug-in. If adding them fails, that means they are corrupted, or perhaps that the OSX and 9.x version plugins were scrambled. If you could list which ones have failed, we can get them posted faster. Virtually all of those plugins are the same as the 7.0 versions, so replacing these miscreants with the originals should be harmless.

Hi David,
Are you sure about Bloom and Virtual Darkroom in 7b? I know that ChanFollow.p and QTTools.p are not loading, but here both Corona.p (which hosts bloom) and LWVDR.p (virtual darkroom) seem to be loading fine under OS9.2.1. In fact, all of the Image Filter plugins seem to be OK. Do you have the Hub on or off?

Well thanks for the responses... As far as I have noticed yet only QTTools.p is not functioning...

Hi,
Julian (nice to see you again), strangely my Bloom, VDR and Corona are now working, even though I hadn't retried to add the plugins. However, my QTTools and ChanFollow are still suffering the same fate as everyone else's.
I am a little bemused by this as not only does it seem that my computer needed several restarts to achieve the desired effect, but it actually had to sleep on it! Is this some newly implemented feature of the OS (based on the acquisition of skills through dreamsleep)?!

OK...Well, it's nice to know that I'm not the ONLY one who's had this strange "0 plug-ins found in 2 files" issue upon loading QTTools.p.
PLEASE, someone tell me where I can get a fresh, guaranteed non-DOA version of QTTools.p, and please also do help if you can in explaining why I can't seem to get some plugs working (same issue) but others from the same plugs dir work fine....(again, mostly I/O and Effects plugs as mentioned above).
Please reply to southpawcg@attbi.com.
Thanks,

Rick - if you have the original 7 CD then you can copy chanfollow.p, qttools.p and vectorblur.p from the relevant OS9 plugin folders on the CD and replace the ones installed by the 7b updater. If you have one of the newer CDs that seem to install 7b directly, I would imagine you need to contact Tech Support at Newtek and ask them to send you those 3 plugins - from what you're saying (and from what Uwe Conrad has seen on Yahoo Groups) the new 7b Install CD might still have the 'bad' 7b plugins..
I didn't think there were loading problems with any of the other plugins. If you're having issues with other Effects plugins then it sounds like your Preference files may have gotten screwed up somehow and need rebuilding - instructions for doing so are often posted here (and are also posted on the resource site below).

I had the same problem making a Quicktime movie running LW 7.0B under OS 9.2. I run multiple partitions, so I tried creating the .mov under OS X and it worked. the only reason I'm not running LW on OS X regularly is the lack of a 3-button mouse---or rather the software drivers for one.
Is there any difference between these problem plugins in the LW 7.0B 9.x and OS X archives?
I would guess that they are all "carbonized" ((adapted from OX 8-9.x) and not "Cocoa" (made for OS X) If we have the 7.0B disks maybe we could just copy them from the OS X install...
