| While the bandwidth for this exists, and initial usage has yielded positive results, NewTek testing has not yet certified recording directly to external devices until thorough benchmarking can take place. If you DO record to an external drive, it is imperative that you first format the drive as an NTFS volume. FAT-32 is the typical file format on off-the-shelf computer hard drives, and this will prevent file captures larger than 2 Gigabytes, which is only about 10 or 12 minutes of video! |
The second video card should have been capped off when you received your TriCaster as it cannot be interfaced with and, contrary to what it seems, will not send or receiving analog VGA signals of any type. This is a video-only I/O device.
TriCaster uses internal connections to the A/V connectors on the front. |
First thing to check is that your DV device (TriCaster will not capture from HDV) is being detected in Administrator mode. When in Admin mode open My Computer and check to see if there is a DV device listed in there.
If it is then reinstalling the drivers for the IEEE 1394 controller (Firewire card) may help. To do this follow these steps:
01. Right click on My Computer and go to Manage.
02. Choose Device Manager.
03. Open IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers.
04. Right click on the device below and choose Update Driver.
05. If Windows asks to connect choose No, not this time.
06. Choose to Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
07. Choose Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
08. Choose OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller (do not choose the Texas Instruments one).
09. Once done, choose Finish and restart the computer. |
The reason for this is TriCasters hardware is not designed to be used as a normal sound card recognizable by Windows.
All TriCaster models have a built in sound card you can use if you wish to have audio playback in Windows. Located on the back of the unit is a 3.5mm green stereo output you can use to hook up some computer speakers or head phones. |
There have been a number of issues reported with the use of LaCie hard drives and TriCasters. The first thing you need to do in this situation is make sure the hard drive is seen in My Computer, in admin mode.
If it is detected then make sure the file system is formatted to NTFS.
It is recommended that you use a Windows based external drive such a Wester Digital, Seagate or Maxtor for ease of use. |
