Why do I not see my Mirage framebuffer output?
Q: After installing Mirage 1.5a and VT 4.6, VT is no longer an input/output option in the Video Grabber panel in Mirage so I see no output on the VT's buffer. Also, Mirage doesn't appear on VT's switcher panel. Why?

A: You must do a Custom Install of Mirage, and select the VT as its frame buffer.

Why do I get an error message, Vafxu.dll is missing?
A: After launching VT or any other app that does Quicktime, if you get an error that Vafxu.dll is missing, then at some point you likely had a Pinnacle/Avid product on your system but uninstalled it.
Go to C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTComponents and delete all the Fast???????? files from there. There may be other names, but it should be obvious and they were the only ones in there.

I can play divx files back in VT-Edit and DDR, but I seem unable to render out to DivX files; why?
A: That is because DivX is not a real-time capture process. It is a 2-pass record, which precludes working under VTs real-time expectation.

Can I use MXF in VT[4]? If so, how?
- Get VT[4], build 5991
- Register and download Snell & Wilkox MXF Desktop from http://www.snellwilcox.com/mxf/

Reading an MXF file
- Drag the file into VT-Edit. This should support DV and MPEG2 (note that VT comes with a MPEG2 decoder plugin as part of DVD WS, so we should read MPEG2 MXF files as well.)

Writing an MXF file
We only support DV MXF files directly from VT-Edit. If you need MPEG2, they you need to go via DVD WS.

- Write a DV Type 1 AVi file from VT-Edit
- Wrap this file using the Snell & Wilkox MXF wrapper.

I re-loaded an older project into VT and all my transitions are now at 4 seconds; why?
It is because you used some of the Hat Tricks DVEs in your project. You can easily set them back by using Tool Shed | DVEs | Adjust DVE

Can VT[4] help me with my After Effects projects?
YES!

NewTek provides a plug-in for Adobe After Effects support. This plug-in has two components: one provides After Effects read/write support for NewTeks uncompressed .rtv file format with alpha channel support. The other allows you to work in AE and benefit from the VT[4] hardware frame-buffer output to your video monitor.

NOTE:
The directory structure of AE was changed by Adobe after NewTek provided this support, so if you are using After Effects version 7 or later, you must manually move the following files to the following locations:

ToasterFB.aex
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe After Effects 7.0SupportFilesPlug-insStandardStandard Effects

RTVIO.aex
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe After Effects 7.0Support FilesPlug-insStandardFormat

To have RTV file support in a computer without VT[4]:

Copy the RTVIO.aex plugin file to
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe After Effects 7.0Support FilesPlug-insStandardFormat

Copy the RTVlib2.dll file to
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe After Effects 7.0Support Files

This will then allow After Effects to import and export NewTeks RTV uncompressed video format.

: I just upgraded my system to VT[4] but now I cannot load my previous projects. What’s happening?
If you have used any of the Bob fx plug-ins, that is your problem; contact Bob fx for their revised code, which makes your projects compatible with VT[4].

why do I get a VTNTAPI.dll error when I start VT?
If you just upgraded your VT and have any BobFX Get up to data plugins from Bob fx at http://www.bobfx.com
