I went to re-install LightWave and got the message “ You cannot install LightWave 8 on this volume. A newer version of this software already exist on the volume”
You will want to go into your Hard Drive:Library:Receipts: folder and remove the entries for LightWave. Then restart the system once it has fully restarted run the installer for LightWave.

Where can I go to download the electronic manual for LightWave?
The electronic manual can be found by logging into NewTeks registration site here: http://reg.newtek.com/. Click the link for "My Downloads".

Once there, scroll down and near the bottom there is a link for LightWave PDF Manuals (for versions 8, 9 and a 9.2 addendum). Click the link and you can download the PDF manual, there are also "Print Resolution" manuals for LightWave 9. The Print Resolution manuals are essentially the same manuals, but are at a higher image quality in case they are to be printed out. The Print Resolution manuals do not contain any extra information over the Screen Resolution manuals.

If you need access to your user name and password for the registration site, click on the "Forgot your user name or password?" link directly below the "Login" button on the registration home page, or call Customer Service at 1-800-862-7837, Monday - Friday 9:30am - 5:30pm Central Time, and one of our representatives can assist you with that information.

I just upgraded LightWave and I seem to be having issues...
With the LightWave 9.x development cycle we decided to issue "upgrades" as stand-alone installs instead of patches. This would allow a user to technically run all versions of a single LightWave platform (Power PC, UB, x86, x64) on one machine without conflict. Another advantage to a stand-alone upgrade means you don't even need a CD in order to reinstall LightWave; just the download that you can access from any machine.

You may notice upon install however that it says your license key was not found and to register again. This is a default message and all that needs to be done is to copy the license key info. To do this you would go to the LightWave programs directory of a previous version, copy a file called license.key, and paste it into the LightWave programs directory of a current version.

You may also go to the Registration Site and log in to get your Permanent License Key and enter it manually using the Registration Utility or by opening Layout and
going to Help > Enter License Key
Below are the various default paths you will navigate to in order to find the license.key file:

Universal Binary:
Macintosh HD: Applications: LightWave3D 9: Shared Support
Power PC:
Macintosh HD: Applications: NewTek: LightWave 3D 9: Programs
x86/x64 (PC):
C:\Program Files\NewTek\LightWave 3D 9\Programs*

*note: if you have LightWave 9 x86 (32-bit) installed on an x64 Windows OS then instead of going to Program Files you would go to Program Files x86.

Where can I access the downloads for older versions of LightWave?
For versions of LightWave prior to [8] you can access the updates by visiting the public NewTek FTP:

ftp://ftp.newtek.com/products/LightWave/Downloads/

Here you will find various updates, manuals, addendum and a few other extras available for Mac or PC.

Can I install on Windows Vista?
For LightWave v9.0 and above, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions we do support all versions of Windows Vista: Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate.

Note: It is a common misconception that Windows Vista is natively a 64-bit OS, but with the exception of Vista Ultimate edition no other version of the OS comes with a 64-bit install disc. If you go to Microsofts website you can order a 64-bit disc of your edition of Vista for a small fee.

Note 2: If you have UAC turned on in Vista, LightWave will not be able to create a license.key. To be able to do so, you need to turn off UAC by going into the Control Panel and typing UAC in the search field. This will bring up the User Accounts Control Panel with "Turn User Account Control(UAC) on or off". You should turn it off, which will require a reboot, register your license.key and then it can be switched on again as desired.

How do I register another platform on the same license?
You've installed LightWave v9 on your Windows 32-bit machine, but you'd like to run it on your Mac too, but don't know what to do? Here are the steps to follow:

1. Login to the Registration system at http://register.newtek.com;
2. Go to My Products;
3. Copy the serial number from there;
4. Go back to My Home and click on LightWave 3D in the dropdown Registration list;
5. Paste the serial number you copied and you will be presented with a page where the licence you already registered is filled in, but there are empty cases for the other platforms.

Make sure you verify that the dongle number is correct for the platform you are registering.
