The difference between SpeedEDIT and SpeedEDIT-VT is that SpeedEDIT-VT is locked to the VT[x] card and standalone SpeedEDIT can be use on any computer with or without the VT[x] hardware.

Pull streaming, recommended for internal and Intranet use, requires each viewing computer to reach across the network and 'touch' the streaming computer. This is multi-cast, so each viewer adds that much outgoing bandwidth at the TriCaster's point of connection on the network.
Push streaming is sent out from the streaming computer to a media server, where a unicast is distributed at a different public address. Once the server is configured, a push stream can be initiated from nearly any internet location without interference from firewalls, making this the recommended method to stream from convention centers or other sites where you do not have firewall access.

It is NewTek’s recommendation that you have as few things as possible installed on any mission-critical system for live production and switching. The chance of getting a virus if you do not install too much software, check email, etc, is incredibly small.
However, if you insist on installing third-party software on a VT machine, be aware that of all the software that you can choose, anti-virus products are most likely to degrade machine performance. This link, for instance, compares different applications impact on system performance; notice how virus scanners slow disk performance between 300% and 2000% - not something you really want on a machine that you need to get the best possible drive I/O performance. Note that almost all virus scanners are implemented as kernel processes, which means that they can take away cycles from running applications without any recourse.
So, if after reading these warnings, and you still feel that anti-virus software is needed, the recommendation would be to disable all the "active scanning" options you possibly can. You do not want it checking files for viruses as they are written to disk, or monitoring running processes because these things will certainly impact VT real-time performance. Try to use it as a manual scanner where once a week or so you manually instantiate a scan to check your computer then at all other times it is almost completely disabled.
While virus scanners are software-based, perhaps the best defense would be to use a hardware-based firewall, such as a router. This prevents unwanted system intrusions without any performance penalty.

We now recommend a separate sound card for Windows sounds, you can purchase a USB or PCI card for relatively cheap. However, if youd prefer to use your VT card instead we still offer supprt for it, its just in a separate driver.
To install the audio driver for the VT card you need to first insert the VT[5] Program DVD, if it attempts to auto-start installation just cancel. Now open My Computer and right click on your VT[5] DVD and choose Open. Then open the Extras folder and go into VT WIndows Audio Driver, you should see a file called Windows Audio Driver.exe, you can run this program like a regular Windows install.
After its done installing you wont need to restart but if you do have any programs running youre trying to get sound from you may need to restart those. If youre still having trouble go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio and make sure the default devices are set to Video Toaster Audio In/Out (also make sure the volume is up). |
