I used a DVI to HDMI cable to plug my big HDMI HDTV in to my computer and I was able to get the SpeedEdit Video Monitor Window to show up big & beautiful on the HDTV. But what I was really trying to do was to use my AJA HA5 HDMI to HD-SDI converter to take the SpeedEdit Video Monitor Window to my Panasonic AV-HS400 Video Switcher (Which I do not have an HDMI or a DVI or even VGA input card for) so I can broadcast SE all over the Auditorium house & overflow spaces.

Everything would have worked out fine except that the Aja does not take a DVI signal that has been converted to HDMI - AJA said "The HA-5 does not support DVI sources. The problem is HDMI has additional meta data that the HA-5 does not compensate for."

I asked him about a Native HDMI graphics card, and AJA also said "suspect HDMI from a graphics card will also not be compatible because of the presence of HDCP digital content protection in the HDMI video signal."

So I got HDMI preview but not broadcast. I'm nonplussed, unless I buy a VGA scan converter that will make 1920x1080 that will work with the component input on the Panasonic Switcher...

How soon do you have to have a solution and how much do you want to spend?

If you need component out, then you could use a VT card for that. Of course it would be SD.

If you absolutely have to have HD output then all you need to do is wait just a little longer for SpeedEdit 2.0 which will have Blackmagic card support.

Thanks Jef,

I have the VT card, but I do have to have HD.

Gonna have to wait for a Black Magic on SE 2.0

If you can't wait, here is a pretty good solution for you.

http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/convert_dvi/

Matrox Convert DVI, priced at $995 US (£649, €799) not including local taxes, will be available through a worldwide network of authorized dealers in November 2009.

Thanks again Jef,

Yes, it's a good suggestion and it would handle my problem, but I checked the price. I'd probably have to sell my car to buy it.

How does that price compare to a blackmagic?

Wish I could sell my AVID but I have to keep it for Capturing & then Exporting.

Blackmagic cards range from 295 SDI only out to $495 for SDI and Analog out.

So SE2.0 is going to work with all of a BM card Jef? Hmm... wanted that back at NAB 2006 or 07.

Mutt, contact your dealer if you were not offered a free SE2.0 upgrade. If you are considering getting your VT fixed and upgrade to 5.2x LiveSet software, you would only have 1 video chanel with the VT3 hardware card. Should be enough to entertain those free PinaCollada crowds! LOL

Mutt, contact your dealer if you were not offered a free SE2.0 upgrade. Just to mention it, not everyone got this - it was a sort of 'consolation' offer for those who waited a long time for [5] pre-orders. Some qualified, but others would not have - depends when you bought.

He has only had SE for about a month, if Mutt is Matt. But his VT went out, likely the PC, at 3, and he went Avid ect... for sometime. So SE was a quick learn from Tedit, but the blocking out of the Aja, well I was hoping the HDU25 deck preview monitor could be turned off, to see if that signal would patch through SE FWire Output.

SE2.0 sounds like a perfect fit for his system on the boat, but he's also one deck down from the party screen. GoodLuck with it Mutt.

Just wondering, did you get to try the PC Y/C output or FWire Y/C from the FX1 or deck, bypassing the Aja? Bet you don't have audio cabling from your deck space to upstairs, yes?

Kilo, He wants HD output not SD.

Thanks Guys,

I appreciate the group support.

As for the Sony M25U Firewire throughput, Kilo, I was told by Eugene from ScorpioProd that the output is I-frame only, 'cos the software would never be fast enough to realtime encode HDV at high speed. Shame, I thought background rendering would cater to that.

Nevertheless

As to my qualifications for SE2.0, I bought direct from Newtek on the website about 2 1/2 months ago (took a month for the box to reach me on the cruiseship 'cos we ship everything by container). I've been a die-hard supporter of Newtek's stuff since I left Premier about a decade ago and went to VT. I've promoted Toaster to lots of people 'cos I love it. I had to go HD last year so the ship bought me an AVID, which I truly hate. It's like video editing designed by a Govt. Committee.

Now I'm going strong back in the SpeedEdit world and loving it. Seeing as I didn't use a dealer, I would like to know who I have to talk to about getting the upgrade without charge. Do I qualify?

Definitely want the BlackMagic HD-SDI only for >$300 - don't care about the analog. So - the blackmagic will put out realtime preview in full-HD quality over HD-SDI, right?

Please say yes. That would make my day/month/year!

Jef - What specific BlackMagic device do I need? I want to make sure I get the exact right thing before I ship the wrong thing to the Caribbean.

Gonna FedEx this one to Aruba! Not going to wait a month again for the friggin container.

I would hold off on buying on just yet. I will have two cards that I know for sure will work (since John has been using them to test with... :) )

Hopefully soon we will have an answer for you. I expect NewTek will release a go/no go list of working cards when SE 2.0 is officially out in the wild.

Jef, can this $295 blackmagic unit capture through HD-SDI too, or is it output only?

And how long do you think I should wait?

Just so no one gets confused, the BlackMagic cards certainly CAN capture on their own. They come with software to do that. And I would expect SpeedEDIT would be able to use the files captured that way.

Although a specific back-date hasn't been pegged, NewTek typically includes purchases around 45 days prior to the date of launch for free upgrade eligibility, so the trend is not your friend in this case. Sorry.
