It's starting to snow where I live (Calgary) and the bike is going in the garage.

Just wondering how many other geeky CG art types get out from in front of the monitor and ride on two wheels? What types of bikes do 3d types ride anyway? You guys like to go out and dress like pirates and get on your chrome skull encrusted Harleys? Or curl up on a nice warm crotch rocket?

I'm closer to the crotch rocket type. I have a 2001 honda VFR800. Awesome bike.

Ride with pride. This one just needs an engine, which I consider a minor detail given the inherent awesomeness of the bike.

@onlinerender: that 1200f is really ugly...
I dig the Kawasaki reminds me of the Cagiva V-Raptor (http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/cagiva/cagiva_v%20raptor%201000.htm)

I myself drive no bike atm, after marriage and getting a baby a cabrio was all I could get (but at least it's an Audi V6).
I had a Honda XL600 a butt-ugly Yamaha xj600 (and as first bike a really old Yamaha xs400). So never had a really hot bike... *sigh*

Doesn't even count, with three wheels you have no idea about counter-steering.... Lose one of those awesome wheels! :)

I have a hearse. My second. (:

I grew up with motorcycles--both street and dirt bikes--and airplanes. I miss that. Would love an old Indian Chief.

You already know what I ride. :D

Anyway, for everyone else... I ride a wee 2001 Honda Rebel. Looking at getting a 600-650 Honda Shadow at some point. I do prefer cruisers myself over street bikes. At least for long rides. But crouching down on a street bike and hauling *** down the highway is also pretty sweet. :D

I still have a 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T. Yes, it "waddles" like a duck!

Setting some of them aside (fairings, windshields, etc.), a 'slung-low-over-the-tank posture works well at speed. The lift from air hitting the torso takes all the strain off the arms and wrists. A typical cruiser, by contrast, requires one to essentially pull oneself forward against the wind constantly to maintain the erect posture. This can be tiring.

On the other hand, the forward-leaning posture puts all your upper body weight on the wrists at 'around-town' speeds, when the lift is largely absent. This can get quite uncomfortable. In the same setting, a cruiser posture puts weight on the spine and butt where presumably it is easier to bear. They both have their place, but I've gotten a little old for canyon-carving, so if I ever buy another bike, it'll be a cruiser.

Yes it does. The "waddle" comes from the fact that while one piston is traveling outward, the other is inward, giving the side-to-side motion at low rpm.

One thing strange about this bike is it didn't come with an air cleaner -- just a shaped intake straight to the carburetor throat.

I always loved that Guzzi look, though, very cool layout visually.

I find the sporty positions much more comfortable and it's much easier to get the bike to do what you want... That said, the VFR is slightly relaxed from the supersport position, so the wrists don't get *as* much pressure.

The toes are present and accounted for. Better then they were. I like the Virago but I think I need a bigger bike. I bought it to ride back and forth to work as well as up to my hometown to visit family. It's not the greatest travel bike. But for touting around town, it's aces. I'm looking to sell it in the spring and it will just depend on finances on when I get the next bike.

And as far as dressing like a pirate... I'm more of a cape guy.

I find the sporty positions much more comfortable ... I'm sure there are 'personal geometry' aspects, too - height and weight, for example ... and I have fairly small wrists. A couple hours of leaning on them while riding around town at low velocity doesn't appeal much. Certainly, though, that posture offers much better handling and control.

I bought a used Kawasaki 800 classic that I plan on chopping up into a classic Bobber.

I still want to buy a Ural for me and my dog Jack though... I love the look of those bikes! The Ural Sahara is on my want list but not sure if there are any left in the US.

Cant stand those cruiser things-tarts handbags the lot of em. :D

I ride a R1 at the mo-I also dress like a power ranger, hang around roundabouts and collect flies in my teeth. Coolest bike ever is my old 400/four that i rode as a youngster-luvly restored and currently residing in my livingroom.

Was a long time biker until health problems forced me to give it up.
Rode in all weathers for over two decades, (thus the problems :p).

My last bike was a Honda CBSevenFifty - I loved her to bits and it broke my heart to sell her.
Here she is.... sigh....

Those bikes are hilarious. Very cool style. :) Although I dig having a fairing and windshield (even a small one like on my bike) for wind buffeting and rocks/bugs.... You ride one of those with the half helmet and its bug-city....

Currently trying out a ducati

but it's not that great. I'll either go back to Suzuki, or get one of these beauties

http://www.supershowevents.com/collection/moj4pics/moj4-guzzi-3.gif

- one of the most comfortable, funnest and easy to ride bikes I've ever ridden, and classy! Whenever I took one out on a test ride (I fixed about a dozen of them), I never wanted to come back.

The first one is nice (of course), and the second one takes ages to clean it, but then it looks nice ... for a while. How about a Buell, seems that you get them pretty cheap nowadays

1949 BSA Bantam 125cc, my only bike, minus the fenders and silencer. Soon realized wouldn't be long for this world so sold it after a few months. The engine was really beautiful and gleamed silver with high quality British Steel not at all like the photo here, even though at the time, it was very old.

Ahhhhhhh. Glendalough, thanks for the memories. BSA Bantam, my very first motorbike.

Mine sounded very much like yours, stripped down for scrambles when I was about 13 growing up in Papua New Guinea. :)

Thanks

I was always partial to the BSA Lightning - nice look, not entirely unlike the Royal Enfield. I saw a 650 Bonneville from that period advertised a little while back for a couple grand and was quite tempted.

Hi Yamba,

Yes, Divine Simplicity, that was the BSA Bantam.

I was too young to have a license in this country (Ireland) and would ride around fields and paths on the nearby mountains and hills. All pretty wild then, though I imagine not as wild as Papua New Guinea!

Royal Enfield, haven't heard that name for many years.

Remember the 650 Bonnivilles well, the Garda (police) used them for awhile, the story was they crashed half of them when changing up from 350s. Probably not true.

But the legendary bike to have here was the Norton for some reason. There weren't many about, I was offered one cheaply but it consisted of a frame and some engine with most of the rest missing. Had a go on a 350 with those tiny turned down racing handle bars but way too big for someone like me. Rather prefer a light scrambler that you can safely fall off and easily pull out of the mud.
