I looking for a way to remote VT-Edit or DDR via
RS-422 editcontroller, BVE-910, BVE450 ....
The ToasterScript commands looks good for that,
but how is it possible to connect them to the
serial port ?
I do this years ago with an amiga and Cando, wich has hat
Scripts for the serial port, but how can I do it now with VT
and ToasterScript ?
(sony protokoll RS-422, betacam)

You figure this one out and I will send you $50. I have been asking for 422 control of the timeline for more than a year. I have brought it up several times with Paul, Andrew, Aussie and others. Aussie and I came up with a workaround idea a while back and that involved using GPI's (GPO's in this case) tied to a script to cue/play/etc. from a remote location. I don't have the BOB and don't plan on getting one (use SDI I/O) so I don't even have access to the GPI's.
Now for the $50 bucks it would have to be straight RS-422 vtr emulation from a standard Edit Controller, like Sony 910, 2000 or Axial 3k! :)
Give it Alpha Out and you would have one awesome animation playback DDR for On-line editing...

I think we would need some serial port commands, but if you have a spare BVE-910, send it to UFO at NewTek.
James might like taking a look thru his deck control methods to communicate with it.

You know Aussie, we may have exactly that... a spare 910 we keep for spare parts. We are just down the street from you (GETV). I may swing by next week with it, if you are serious, or maybe give it to Paul as we are supposed to have lunch next week.

Well this is a nice thread,
Hey Aussie, let us know what james makes of this...this would allow the VT to really become a graphics server based solution....and to remotely control MUTLIPLE VTs as well...A good example would be to use in a VRset....where you have Multiple VT's each with there ISO VRview but need to sync playback of the Bkgs...so all could be triggered at the same time....also for ON-AIR of overlays and graphics with another switcher and control room...besides in edit suites...
Cheers,
Ray Adams

We want to know which parameters in the VT4 must be set in order for the Sony BVE-9100 editor to control the VT4.
There is no ability to have hybrid editing in VT4.
You cannot drive VT4 with linear edit decks.

Back when this thread first started I stopped by and talked with Aussie. He seemed to think at the time this could be done (external 422 control) with some modifications. I gave him a spare Sony 910 editor we had so he could set up a test rig. As far as I know, he never did. He still has my 910 though...

That would be pretty cool to have, Brad.......

I have been wrote a VTR remote plugin for VT[2] beta team years ago. Also, I have another project for a show room that remote three DDRs from a controler with SONY protocol. I have to said that VT can be remoted but with some timing issues. I can remote VT-Edit to play, stop, forward, backward, goto specified time position... with sony protocol.
I am quite busy for following two or three weeks with a special project. After that I will make a plugin program for testing.
If VT can be remoted, what price you guys wish to paid? :D

Sounds great Chen.
I expect everyone hear would be more than willing to pay $4 maybe $5.
At least that is what feedback I have gotten on plugins we have developed. Maybe this would be something more people would be interested in.

Chen,
I all seriousness 422 control would open up VT to a whole new realm of possible uses. There have been some discussion about this a while back. Making it a on-line DDR with alpha for edit room or live is obvious, but audio production, video chase, automation, and integration into all kinds of work flows would be possible. DJLithium has mentioned this a few times as something he could use in his film production support.
I think it should and will eventually be built into VT. Maybe you could do the coding and sell it to Newtek.
nice plugin
count me in :)
