time for hardware upgrade

HI,

I've got currently a VT [1]... but probably will upgrade to VT [3] by the end of this year.

I want to upgrade my computer very soon and I want to keep in mind compatibility.

I remember when VT [1] came out there were some issues with some chipsets.

Are ther any known issues with SIS chipsets for P4? or the Nforce 2 for AMD?

Zero-for-two on that question, Moon. :(

I would suggest you stick with Intel P4 or Xeon systems using i850, i860, E7505 or E7205-based chipsets. Toaster [3] requires SSE2 instruction compatibility, which means Pentium 4, Xeon, or (soon-to-be-released) AMD Opteron processors.

Is there any word on the VT [3] upgrade price from VT [1]?

OK lets put it this way....

It will be awhile before I can even afford the VT [3].. but wanted to get a new mobo either way before then, since this current one will go into an HTPC.

Well, other than the fact they're not tested with VT1, and not recommended, no. :p
