I was commissioned to create a 3D model from line drawings. I'm just wondering what you think. I am going to texture it and create a scene for it but this is just a start. There's 37, 323 polygons.
Honest feedback only. LW 7.5.

Wow, that's great!
I personally like that rendering style, without textures. Can't wait to see a textured version still, though.
What kind of lighting setup do you have?

Yes that's very good indeed. although a more close-up view would be nice.
No crits, other than to give it some surroundings.
I too would like to know your lighting setup.
Adrian.

That is very good Fab, looks very detail also, How close can you go from the building ??
Can I ask you something ?? where the hell do you start with a line drawing stuff.... are you doing florr by floor...? Or more like a blocks construction ? and last but not...., how long did you take to get to that point..... ?
Cheers, thanks, Hervé

Nice. I do some stuff like this, and i usually just block in the major shapes and then go to work on the details.

Well I just somewhat finished some additional detail and punched the poly count to about 67,000 (siding and roof stuff). So I colour coded my model now so I have a reference. These colours should remail somewhat the same throughout the texturing process.

The image maps are sitting in at a whopping 5000 x 5000 pixels (x3). I had to UV map them. So in Lightwave I morphed all the polygons to face the Z-axis then created the UV along the Z plan. That helps when trying to match the look and feel across the same texture and helps with keeping things coherent. I think if memory serves me correctly from last night, my texture work files (PSD documents) run in the neighbourhood of about 2.5 GB.
The lights are hot for the angles of the roof, but I've not painted those yet.
Cheers!

Arlen,
That's fantastic texturing on top of a fantastic model. I know that doesn't help with regards to criticism, but what do you expect if you create such fantastic work?
Just out of interest, how long did you spend on creating your image maps?
Also, I take it your client is thrilled with this?
Adrian.

The client is more than happy with the model. He hasn't seen the textures yet though. I still have stuff to model for it like the street lights and other accents. I have trees too to implement, they're done, but haven't been added yet.
Something like this usually takes me about 2-3 days to model and about 1 week to texture as I create custom UV maps along the Z axis using morphs and hand paint the textures.
Thanks for the positive feedback.
Cheers!

Sorry, I guess I didn't answer your question. You can get right up to the building and touch it... well sort of.
With the line drawings I started with a scan of each. Then I use the viewports to display the image. Then I use those images to block out and rough in the basis of the building. I normally like to work with numbers when making something, but I didn't have time for that on this project. I do have floor plans but decided not to use them.
Cheers!
