What's the story with the Mask files?
Is there a rhyme or reason for the coloring of the various regions? I have a skin made up that seems to respond only to the blue regions, and then only to the completely blu regions.
I'm figuring the key is in the initialization script, but what exactly must I specify?
as always, any help is appreciated.

The colors of the various regions determine the function of that area. You need to be sure that the colors are exaxtly what is specified in the initialization script or they won't work. To do this you need to use indexed color. It s easiest to open a current mask and adjust that/move the colors to meet your needs.

That makes all the sense in the world! Thanks.
Now, where would I find the reference that describes all of the minutae like this?
That P.S. was a hoot!
I guess if we're so "hung up" on grammar then we might well get "hanged" :D
If you can find an old copy of Newtekniques I think Aussie had an article in one of the issues. Maybe he would be good enough to post it somewhere here for all to enjoy, I looked but was unable to find it online. If you check the initialization script you will see the RGB values of the colors listed. The article had more info but you can go quite far with this. For the most part you can take away functions but you cannot add them to a module because that would require recoding the module. Find the skin that has all of the functions you require and you are set. It can be fun but be sure to make a back-up because your skins can be lost during an upgrade.

PS. I only mentioned it because someone once told me the difference and it just seems so wrong now. I could go into it further but prefer to not make blue comments on this board if you know what I mean.

Yeah, blue comments are what I'm hoping we'll not be hung up on ! :D
BUt thanks for the info. This was right on.
What I'm trying to do with this skin is combine a "fixed" 5 input switcher with the CG Player functions.
I think a combination script would do the trick.
I have a good line on the process now thanks to your advice.

THe colors for control seem to be located in the X:\VT[3]\Effects\NEWTEK INFO and X:\VT[3]\Effects\color tinting Folders where X is the letter of the system volume. There are two other directories with a plethora of color swatches and corresponding RGB values.
Maybe when I finish building the ton of toasters I'm working on, I'll build a color/control map! Seems like a worthy cause.

Jason,
Never got that email you were going to send me about your skin ideas.
Send it to my jef at pizazzme dot com address when you get a chance. I am about to be on the road but I will check my email on my phone frequently.
Later,
Jef
