I want to output a toaster project with a timecode burned in so my editor can make offline edit decisions.

At the moment I do it in Aura but the process is time consuming.

A real time version would be nice, drop an effect on the timeline, and play.

A really neat touch might be to have it switchable in the DDR

Agree.
In the meantime, One suggestion (may have been posted before) would be to create a clip with overlay on that has a "timecode" counting. You could then lay this below the project & output.
Perhaps in T3 with the "print to tape" function an option will be present to output with timecode window.

I agree that a way to put timecode directly from the timeline is a needed feature. Especially for serious off line edit decisions. Never mind workarounds, let's just have it.

Well, I did post this as a possible solution...... render it out with Aura on a black (or no) background, save it out as a .rtv, burn that to disk (DVD) and simply load it any time you need it.

Will that possibly work ?

As I already said, I use the method outlined above, but if you have offline tapes an hour or 90 mins long then it's a task to render that layer in Aura.

OK so you only have to render it once, but it takes up drive space,
which I am always short of, and when I first asked for it, and usually when the client asks for it they want it yesterday.

From my point of view it would be really useful to capture a DV Camera tape, drop a "TimeCode bug" or DVE on to the next layer.
and Play out to a VHS deck to give the client a quick offline to work out an EDL from, its a logical extension, to the DV and EDL capabilties that are being added to Toaster 3.

It almost seems a feature request implies a critisism of Newtek, thats not the case, Its a case of it would be really cool and very useful if this could be done without taking too much time from other issues, several features went into Lightwave 6 this way which I asked for and use all the time.

I love my Toaster, I just really want to see it kick some Avid ***:D
