View Full Version : bevel multiple polys?

The bevel tool bevels multiple polys individually. I'd like to be able to treat them as a single poly, without actually merging them. Smooth shift, move, and size are kind of a clumsy combination.
Bevel++ looks like just the ticket, but the 4.1 demo appears to be broken. (I'm using LW 7.5b). I've tried EdgeBevel and Magic Bevel, but I don't think they're the droids I'm looking for.

For greatest control, try out vertibevel (i've heard it's really good - i haven't got it myself though).

There's also smoo:

Another option is my Q-SMSbevel, which is part of Eki's ModPak (not as good as the above, but you get many other cool scripts too ;-)

Thanks for the links. Smoo does the job, but the interface is a bit clumsy. I've heard of VertiBevel, but it's kind of expensive.
I figured out the problem with Bevel++. I kept getting error messages about having more than 50 polys, even on a simple cube. I didn't realize that the 50-poly limit applied to the whole object, including other layers.
Bevel++ is exactly what I'm looking for, and $30 seems like a fair price.

I ordered Bevel ++ version 4 and I have to say it's a really great product. It has all the functions from VertiBevel plus it's totally interactive and much more integrated into Lightwave's modeler.
Everybody who model in lightwave should buy it.

Super shift does multiple poly bevelling, and it's free, so maybe could compare and contrast it with bevel ++ for me? Tell me what I'm missing?

Supershift is good, and I use it sometimes -- I like the way it can use averaged normals, way nifty.
Bevel++, however, has all the regular beveling controls, can segment the bevel, and also has an overlap correction feature (although it only works on single poly bevels). Most importantly, it can bevel along a line or spline guide. That is, you create a multiline or splineform that outlines the profile of the bevel -- this is interactive right in your modeling viewport and you can use it to dynamically design a shape. The profile can then be saved and used again later to duplicate the same shape.
I used to call VertiBevel my most important modeling tool. However, I recently upgraded my old dongle and that meant a new dongle ID and that meant my license key for VertiBevel was no longer valid. I have yet to receive a response from [censored] Shekinah studios regarding my request for a new license key. In my panic over losing such a valuable tool, I discovered Bevel++ and was delighted to find it a superior tool and vastly cheaper as well.
So... now Bevel++ is my most important modeling tool.:D I use it almost constantly and it normally saves me hours on any given model.

Bevel ++ rocks!
The Preset Shelf is worth the price alone!
