This robot is inspired from the "lots of robts" movie. I saw it and really liked one of the robots but saw it differently in my head. So this is Not 100% an orignal Idea, but the recreation and additions are. But then again, How much stuff is very orginal. No offence to anyone artwork:) Please let me know what you think.

Unless the legs and feet are made of lead and the body of vacuformed plastic, it will immediately fall over. The centre of gravity (ie the heavy body) needs to be more or less above the feet, and then bend the legs accordingly.

You also need to think about how the legs would actually move - what's powering them, where are the 'muscles' - the gears etc. It doesn't LOOK like it would work properly. Even though it's a fantasy image, it still needs some sense of logic, so the viewer can buy into it.

Lets see some textures...

thanks techno...

Darth Mole, Ya that is a really good point, I honestly had thought about the center of gravity. I was going to change that. I just have not gotten around to it. I am taking it that you have not been to www.lotsofrobots.com and watched the movie... I would really recomend that movie... the artist is much better than me... Any how... I will probably end up redoing this model. I am really glad you have made a post worth reading!

Interesting idea. It will be nice to see how this end ups. As for the centre of gravity, You could have it in mid-stride (one leg in front and one behind).

Have you done any char anim or walk-cycles before? If not, you may want to modify the legs to have just one knee joint. It will make thing easier for you to begin with for doing a walk cycle. Maybe you could add many jointed arms. What sort of eyes are you going to give it, or will it have a couple radars attached to see with instead.

Keep posting your progess. :)

Techno - sucks? I don't see any mouth on it that is sucking. Or were you being rude? I hope not.

One way to salvage the original intent of the legs without starting over would be to extend the 'elbow', which would be the third joint from the top. If the elbow were extended behind the robot body by maybe 50% the width of it's body it should be quite stable walking. Though, the stress on the joint at that point would be substantial, so perhaps thicken up the joints a bit. The funny thing is, that it's never if the system could ACTUALLY work, it's if people look at it and THINK it could work. It's not what works, but what looks good.

thanks everyone... Really helpful posts! 1 exeception. anyhow, I have gotten very fustrated with this project. Because it does not look as cool as I pictured it in my head. I am going to plan on redoing this robot in a week or so, for now I have started another character. I will try and make a post soon for that. Thanks again, And I will come back to this post soon
