OK people.

At the moment I use flat pictures of people in my still renders on flat polys with alpha channels. All nice for most things.

When it comes to movement and animated walk-throughs I'm tempted to go with the RPC plugin.

What I would like to know...are there *any* lifelike people out there built in 3D?

Ideally I'd like a lowish res mesh (or a metanurbed mesh would be great), with a photographic texture applied.

I'm suprised, but I can't find anything like this out there :( I can find flat people which look good. I can find stuff like RPC that use a cross-configuration, but still have their own shadows, but what I'd really like is something that picks up on my own lighting setup.

I don't *need* loads of people in one image, most of my stuff is residential and commercial development on a small to medium scale. But it's a shame to use flat photos of people when I'm using gorgeous vehicle models from Dosch (they're stunning models!).

Any pointers?

Cheers,

Dunk

hi,

you might want to check this website out..........www.lowpolygon3d.com

Oh excellent! I'm going to keep an eye on these :D I guess once I get them into Lightwave I could always raise the mesh size to get a decent hi-res MIP version for closer to the camera! The polys look quite chunky for 4,000 polys ina character, but I'm sure a bit of tweakign would help :D

Thanks for that!!!

Or look here (just ignore the crappy website structure) : http://www.axyz-design.com/

Hi :) Now that I've seen that link I remember seeing these models before. My only problem was that they were very much Southern European in style (stature, dress sense and colouring). I suppose to some extent you could alter the hair colouring in the texture map, but the clothes would take more time :) Still, to have the meshes there in the first place would save some time :)

Thanks :)

Hmm...just downloaded the samples of both of these, and I have to say that the axyz models are by far the better. The meshes are really clean and obviously hand-built or hand finished, plus the texture maps are nicely laid out too. But they're very distinctly Southern European in their style (better dress sense than us in England ;) ).

The lowpolygon3d stuff has the better texture maps in terms of suitability for my location, but the models look like they've just been digitised and knocked down with some nasty algorithms. Considering the poly counts are very close (axyz=3000, lowpoly3d=2856), the axyz would hold up to far better scrutiny at a closer level.

Hmm...a combination of the two :)

Marlin Studios do *animated* images of people walking/talking - check out their website.

I know you're looking for 3D but this sounds like it could be a viable option.
