Hello to everybody ...
I am too busy this months, so i am not active for this forums now  but i want to show an animation about a complex residential project i made this summer. It all has been made with Lightwave, and there is no real images, so all, including terrain is virtual.
My server is too slow and file is huge so i hope you can download it ....

Did you get any tan this summer? I think you have spend all time making trees and bushes to use with HDInstance :) But it really shows. The size of this project makes everything very impressive. Texturing is good, cars could have been better, lighting is a bit hard (although it may be typical for Spain), trees and bushes perfect. I'm missing signs of life ;)
Some criticism (partially personal prefs):
If this animation was not longer then a minute, I would probably have nothing to spill. For a kiosk it is perfect. For a presentation it is a bit boring from a prospective viewpoint. The fly over is too long for what it really shows. Since there are many equal houses it would have been better to show them in a more private setting. Take a good look at documentaries about architecture and housing developments and talk to experienced camera technicians on how to set up camera moves to keep your audience focused, including the accompanying music. Animation and music may be personal or on clients demand but it sometimes is more important then a perfectly lit and textured environment.
BTW: still no plans for archviz in another software ? XSI-C4D-MAX ?

Hi trick ...
This animations are part of long (more than 20 minutes) video including real images, so perhaps it becomes long as you see it, but think that all this sequences are mount inside a video where you see 30 or 40 seconds of 3D at one time ... final video has a good edition and dont show reptetitive issues you can see ...
I agree with yout comments about cars, etc ... but deadline grow fast, and there was no time to more ;)

About any other soft for archviz i must say that personally i hate MAX.
I have a license of XSI Essentials, it is a icredible sofware, but i dont find a good workflow to work fast and to use external modeling application like Modo or LW, because all material and texture management is not as flexible as LW to create libraries or to copy materials from one object to other.
About C4D, i think that today is best alternative to LW for archviz, and work well with LW objects, but i have not change to it because i am inside XSI to get a new soft for other works and i have no time to learn more ....

I started with DOS 3DStudio R1, and I really can understand your feelings about MAX. For building simulations, automatic character animation (CS4, CAT), texture baking (VRay, MR, Radiosity and FinGath) and the coming ClothFX combined with PointOven it has a lot of things to offer in combination with LW. It will cost you a lot of money but if you need it, everything suddenly is cheap
I love XSI but really have no use for it. I know Cinema from the days of 3DStudio (DOS) R1, and I still can not see it's advantages over MAX and LW when dealing with huge or complex projects. You can get good quality from a lot of apps, but I'm only interested in speed optimizations. Even the new Maxwell renderer can give you a relative speed boost for stills.
I'm very capable in modeling with LW and MAX but prefer architectural work in FormZ. So I wonder IF you are doing arch stuff in MODO and WHY ?

I hope Newtek dont offense about this comment, but MODO has a lot of features who make arch modeling more easy and fast ... it has a powefull macro recorder, it has more snap options, it has work planes, incredible usefull in arch, it has a lot of modes of interact with geometry using handlers, for example, for tranformations in not orthogoal plane, it is fast in visualization, it has a incredible interface, real edges, ngons in subds, and of course all workflow and tools of LW Modeler and near full compatibility with LW ... so today i am very happy about join LW Layout and Modo in my daily work. But LW modeler is not far from it ... only a bit of work from Newtek could make LW modeler as powerfull as Modo or more ... i am waiting for future releases of LW ....

Thanks, now let's hope I can find someone to test this baby out.
If I am asking this question, NT should be glad to see your comments. It could help them make modeler the best. And since MODO is very compatible to LW why should they complain.
But since you answered my question, let's drop the MODO talk !!!!

Hey Juan!!
That's insane! I was wondering if you could share a few tips as to how you did it. Like how did you get all that detail in the background for the long shots? Did you model all that stuff or what? I'd love to know!
Stuart
Juan,
that's absolutely one of the most complex archiviz simulation I saw so far. Did you model on top of satellite shots or how did you create the whole background surrounding? How did you handle so big image and object files? What resolution did you render (PAL, HDTV, etc.)? How long did it take per frame? Which renderer did u use (Fprime, LW)?
thanks alot
