Isn't it ironic that the winners probably won't need the prizes if they are skilled enough to win!

Pity the Newtek Logo isn't in there somewhere. What doews that say: Newtek doesn't do Architecture. ..OK we know it isn't true, but that's the inference.

yeah, and who's got time to devote to 5 projects over 5 months not including the original entry? Thats one crazy contest... I think I'll stick to playing UT2004 and Half Life 2 instead...

I might give it a go. Im working on some new things right now to try and qualify. Gonna be really tough though with all that talented competition.

If you don't make it the rest of us don't have a sliver of a chance.

Come on Jason. If Charles and I entered, you've got to.
Pick 3 of your best. You're too talented not to enter.

Don't worry, he is entering....aren't you Jason.

Guys - enter! We need Newtek and others to see what Lightwave can do for architectural illustration work.

Not that I want any more competition....... on second thought, don't enter....

Seriously, there is some really nice work posted for the contest and a lot of mediocre junk. There is plenty of Lightwave talent in these forums, so quit goofing off and post your stuff there.

It sure would be nice if some Lightwave user made it into the top 30.

You only have a few more days.

I'm not entering it too, I can't find the time to do 5 projects over 5 months and
also have tiny chance of winning..
if it would be just 1 project I would enter it..

I have a feeling some of the more large production houses even though cheating will collectivly work on projects if they make it in the top 30. At the very least they will have someone in there co build the models, a texture guy finding the perfect ones, then hand it off to there ace to finish it off. The emphisis is on the rendering, but a great model will kick it up a notch. Its hard to compete with that when you have to pay the bills with real work, even more over 6 months.

ps. I hope some small guy wins it. My moneys on Chen for China

Well, speaking for myself, I don't have much spare time. The images that I submitted are from projects I've completed over the years.

The rules are supposed to keep the large companies from dolling out tasks. I hope no one cheats.

Quite frankly, I'm sure that it will be one of the small guys that wins - someone that is a hobbiest that has more time to play around.

I spend all of my time working on real projects and running the business.

But like I said. I just think it is good for all of us Lightwavers to submit to show Newtek and the world that this is a good program for architectural illustration/animation.

I have no dellusions about actually making the final cut.

I wish all Lightwavers luck. I don't have any spare time either. Just got an airport expansion project that will tie me up for a month minimun.
It is easy to submit 3 images as mentioned it's the extra images after that would be a time waster taking away from paying jobs.
I agree that it will probably be some hobbyist that will win.

I hear you. If you saw the workload we have at Paradigm....well. let's say it is a ton of projects. I'm currently overseeing and/or producing 15 active projects.

I doubt I'll make it into the 30 anyway (even though I like my stuff), but if by some chance, I'll figure out how to make it happen for the next round - which they start out fairly simple from a modeling standpoint.

I still think a larger number of Lightwave entries helps us all. Even if none of us make it, we'll at least start to shake things up a bit.

I want Newtek more than anything to take us seriously and start gearing more tools towards us - which would help all of their users....

I definately plan on entering, im just waiting until last minute while i tweak some of my images. But i really dont think i will make it, my renders dont have a very grand scale like some of the other entries. I would love to see more lightwave stuff being entered. Just think how cool it would be if some lightwave users made it to the last few rounds. You have nothing to lose by posting 3 images, even if you dont have time for the comp, might as well see how you stack up againt everyone else.

In Lightwave I have always liked Dmitry Savinoff's work. His exteriors are top shelf. Newtek even uses his stuff.

His site is:

I see the final 30 have been posted. Any Lightwavers in there that made it?
