View Full Version : Shockwave exporter crashes

Ok, what am I doing wrong?
I have a skeleton that is keyframe animated (actually it is some motion capture taken from Motionbuilder, and applied to a Lightwave character). It's pretty much like baked motion on the bones.
Every time I try and export a shockwave scene, no matter what options I select for the exporter, it always crashes Lightwave.
Is there specific settings that I should be using?
Thanks.

How is your character set up? Is it a frozen mesh or a sub patch mesh?
How are your weight maps setup?
How long is the animation and are you using inverse kinematics?
I have found with quite complex character setups and animations, especially with lots of keyframes will crash lightwave on export no matter wot you do.
Sometimes though you do just need to give it time. I have waited for 10 minutes before while exporting a w3d and it did eventually export.
Cheers

Thanks for the info Mark.
The character was a subpatch object. It had no weight maps at all. The character had about 120 bones and the animation was 96 frames long. No IK was used because the animation was from Motionbuilder, which "bakes" the bone rotations, and pretty much makes a keyframe on every frame.
Lightwave would crash instantly and close down, no waiting.

i got the same problem as u... no luck
is there any limit to the number of bones?
i have a standard rig for the character, that should be many bones for fingers and spine...
i dont use ik, make separate weight map with use weight map only turn on
no subpatch, instead, mesh with trigons
i just give some simple movement for the rotation of bones
when i export it to be w3d, it gets a hard crash instantly!!!
any idea thus far u guys experienced?
hey guys, i FELL YOUR PAIN
i am trying to export character animation to w3d too.
let me run through some tests i did in order to try and reach a conclusion.
first of all i tried exporting a character animation done with a acs4 rig - no way dude...CRASH, when striping the spine controller.
then i tried with a another free game character rig made by castius on cgtalk ( www.steelronin.com )...CRASH when striping ankle !
then tried with tsm demo character - and low and behold......CRASH when striping wrist !
then i made a very simple cross shape block object and put bones in it with weight maps - that worked !
CONCLUSION SO FAR : there is some error with the export of rigs that use expressions !
I NEED TO GET THIS WORKING SO PLEASE TELL ME IF ANYONE FIGURES THIS OUT.
p.s. lfgabel - i think you HAVE to HAVE weight maps assigned !
