***NOTE - These were built and tested ONLY on a VT3 system. I DO NOT know if they will work correctly on a VT4 or 4.5 steup!****

Hey Folks...

For any of you who have been following my threads on the NewTek web-board, you might know what this is all about. These are my new "VT-Trim skins" which give you a new interface for editing on the VT.

For a while now, I've wanted to see an interface similar to AVID, FCP, or Premiere Pro on the VT system. After complaining too much about it, I decided to try and tackle the problem - this is the result. You can now set up your VT interface to work more like what you find in those other packages...and it's FREE to the VT community. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the other systems, but now you have a separate interface for triming clips before you place them in your edited piece.

If you feel your up to trying it out, please do! The files can be found in this folder:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VTNT/files/VT-Trim%20Skins/

One Zip file contains the Instructions and the other has all the folders needed to make this skin work.
I'll try and make this a more self-extracting .zip in the future, but I'm rushing this out now since they've been in the can for a while.

Please send me questions, feedback, and suggestions when you get the chance - gm953 AT aol DOT com.

Thanks and enjoy the new interface!

Sincerely,
Greg Mitchell (a.k.a. - The MediaSig)

I'm in the process of setting this up now Greg, but seem to be missing a few things for the VT-Vision monitors. The install searchs for but can't find the "dsk.png" file (it's missing) and none of the knobs are there. They're not in the Yahoo Groups download that I got last night nor in the download on MBeck's site which I just checked. Once I clicked through all the "can't find xxxxx" messages the monitors do show up, all the right-click options are there, just no buttons along the bottom.

This will be interesting since my NLE experience has all been Toaster/Flyer and VT[x]. Since I've never even seen, let alone used AVID, FCP, or Premiere, I'm not sure why a separate trim window would be better, but I'll give it a shot just to see what you've been gripping about all this time. :)

Thanks for your efforts in any case.

I didn't think of this when I posted...these SKINS were made in a VT3 system. I don't know of anything that would be missing and you are not supposed to see the buttons on the VT-Trim Vision monitors. I have removed all the controls on that skin for reasons of space.

What version of VT are you running?

Running VT[4.5] Greg. You're right, just looked at your instructions again and I've got the same kind of bare bones button-less monitors you're showing there.

What it's doing when it loads each of your VT-Vision skins is looking for "dsk.png" and then about 127 "knob" PNG files. There doesn't seem to be any way to shortstop that process, I just have to click through that many "missing" messages. Once I do that the monitors come up and function as they should. Wouldn't be too bad when initially setting up your trim desktop, but when I exit VT with that desktop configuration it loads it the next time I start VT and I get to exercise Mortimer Mouse all over again (he and my right index finger are getting tired). :D

In 4.5 the scripts map to button directories which is a little different than version 3 did. If the button maps are in the skin matt or are referenced in the script, this will happen. It's also that the directory structure and naming is slightly different in 4.5. Unless someone were to develop this in an actual 4.5 system, I suspect you'll have these problems.

Gotcha. Thanks for the feedback...and now I wish I could fix it. Unfortunately I never upgraded as there was nothing I really needed in 4.0 or 4.5 to make that kind of purchase.

:hey:

UPDATE - I've made some changes to the VT-Trim Vision Scripts and they HOPEFULLY should work now in VT4 and 4.5. Again this is UN-TESTED so any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Again the new updated version can be downloaded from the VT Yahoo Group file directory:

Thanks for all your patience.

--- cross-posted from Yahoo VTNT Mail List ---

New script works great in VT[4.5] Greg - Mortimer Mouse and I can relax now, no more 258 clicks required to deal with the "missing file" messages! Thanks also for the .pdf instructions file. I don't have anything but video production apps on my VT system and the apparently older copy of Wordpad on the system wouldn't open the original .doc file.

Now that you've thrashed that little VT-Vision bug, how 'bout another challenge? Any way you can make the VT-Scope do an auto switch between the Preview and Main/Program inputs when we switch between Trim Module and Timeline, without having to run two of them? I've got two of them up now, but I'd rather be able to use the screen real estate for a larger file bin.

THANKS!! I'm glad to know it's working.

I also have to thanks MBeck for not only making the PDF version of the instructions, but for hosting a download site for the skins outside of the Yahoo group!!

Give me more feedback when possible.

As for the Scope, well...I can't get the modules to all talk to each other and that's why I had to build some of the skins the way I did. Maybe I'll find a way down the road, but I think that requires a little more time diving into the scripts and possibly even some of the code to get that to work.

...but I could be wrong.

Greg

I lost them and would like to have this set up back for a couple folks that work in Premiere so they can get stuff done on our VT4.6

you'll have to sign up to the VTNT Yahoo group, but you can get them here:

If you need to, e-mail me personally and I'll see if I can forward them to you.
