NewTek and TVPaint, Inc., are pleased to announce that they have reached a new agreement on the development and distribution of the broadcast video paint toolset that NewTek has distributed as Aura Video Paint(TM). NewTek will continue to include Aura Video Paint with the award-winning VT[2](TM) and forthcoming VT[3](TM) broadcast production suite. TVPaint will distribute the product in standalone form under new branding.

TVPaint will offer upgrades to new versions of the rebranded product to owners of NewTek's standalone Aura Video Paint package. TVPaint will also continue to work with NewTek to allow NewTek to provide enhancements to Aura Video Paint as an element of current and future video production suites. From time to time, NewTek and TVPaint will work together to provide a variety of special offers as well, including bundle offerings of the two companies' products.

Does this mean that dreams of improved TEd/Aura integration in the future is in doubt, thus securing Aura's place forever in a "parallel" VT[3] universe vs. direct TEd access to Aura functionality?

At least it seems to be in good hands...
About TVPaint, Inc.
With headquarters in Metz, France, TVPaint is a developer of broadcast video paint production tools including TVPaint Animation and Aura TM. TVPaint set a new standard in video paint power with the release of the first 32-bit video paint software, in 1991 on the Amiga platform.

Aura is in good hands yes, it appears that way.
So is TEd.
This is good.

But we now have R&D spread across the ocean for two separate applications, if I understand things correctly.

My question still stands.

If much of Aura functionality was accessible from within TEd, the NLE be would be much stronger as an app.

Aura development has always been located in France. Our new agreements with TVPaint, Inc. will indeed include enhancements to Aura, including improved integration features. Insofar as duplicating some of the functionality of Aura within TEd, we do plan to continue expanding the scope of things that users can accomplish in the editor.

Way cool.

Thanks for calming my fears, and clarifying this, Chuck. I get paranoid too easily. We all look forward to those improved integration features. Very exciting stuff, indeed.
