View Full Version : Tally control with Sony D50 ccus

I have 3 Sony D-50 ccu's and want to control tally.
I was reading old threads and it appeared that most users needed an aftermarket or custom built interface. But I know that the voltage swing changed with the SX-84.
Do any of you know the D50, and can you tell me if I can simply go from the SX-84 to my CCUs to control tally?
I also have Marshall V-R102DP-2C (http://www.lcdracks.com/racks/v-r102dp-2c.html)
with a three-way tally system. Any thoughts on how I would add them to the mix?

Have you learned how to connect your D50 CCU to tally yet. I know your post is like 2 years old, but we have D50's and I'm in the same boat.

When I get back to the office and have access to all my docs, I will post what we had to wire up recently. It depends on your PL/Com manufacturer.

Does anyone know the pinouts for the tally connector on the SX84? Is it in the docs anywhere? (sorry, I'm not near my VT system at the moment...) Thanks

I know i've seen a pinout diagram on this forum before. You could probably find it by doing some searching.

Pin Description

The LED outputs are currect sinking (goes low when active) and you should use at least 200 ohm resistor in series with an external LED. There is also a 200 ohm resistor in series with this signal inside the BOB. These LED signals are just copies of the tally LEDs on BOB. The circuits gp logic low when activated. GPI pins are connected thru 200 ohms series resistance to the Microchip PIC16f872 micro controller I/O pins with a 25mA maximum current source/sink.

Dose anyone know if these outputs are isolated, or do we need to send them to a opti-culper or a Transistor to give some isolation. Or will we have any problems just hook up a led from the 3.3V to resistor to pin and thats it.
What is this about a PIC16f872 is that what is handling all the I/O inside.

My experience is that trying to drive the LEDs directly doesn't work too well. The SX-8(4) doesn't provide much oomph, the internal current limiting gets in the way.

I believe on that CCU you can do either a contact closure or voltage feed down the line to the Tally Lamp at the camera. You will need to refer to the technical manual for the CCU jumper settings for each mode.
I prefer to have the Tally Interface for the VT do contact closure if at all possible for the camera's CCU.

The RM-P210 has been set at the factory in the “make contact
mode”. If it is required to set it to the “voltage supplied
mode”, the setting of the internal circuitry should be
changed; consult your nearest JVC-authorized service
agent. (The modification will then be carried out with charge.)
NOTE
Well I was curious so I went ahead and confirmed what I thought was true. The CCUs you have are most likely set as they were from the factory with contact closure being the trigger to turn on the lamp. In our older RM300's at the church, there was a simple jumper inside to switch it between contact closure or voltage pass through.

You will need to purchase a Tally unit from Jeff Cupp, AmiTrace, or myself to interface between the VT and your CCUs.
