Let me answer this a bit differently, and see if that helps. I could be wrong, so take this with a grain of salt...

From what I understand, SE probably won't come with any drivers to control a capture board you may have. However, if you use the application that came with your capture hardware, and capture some video files to a common codec that works for both SE and your capture board, then SE should have no problem working with those video file clips.

Now that I've taken that plunge, there has been some references to SE working with Firewire for both DV and HDV.
