View Full Version : Audio ain't doing right!

Something baffles me about capturing the correct audio rate with my video using ntsc dv. I captured about 1 hr video from minidv tape, and there was no audio on the time line. Checking the properties I find it is only 32k/16bit, 2ch. So I tried again with about 15 sec worth and get 48k/16 bit and plays back just fine. I captured the video the second time starting from a new project page and again got no audio. Again I did a short test and got the right audio, immediately captured the video for the 3rd time and it comes up 32k/16bit. I checked the dx sound setting and it says "full" whatever that means. My sound board is built into an asus p8p800, soundmax digital onboard. I now assume that maybe my built in sound may not know what dx9 means. But why would it record a short session at 48 and a longer session at 32? Is there a hidden button that allows me to choose what I want?
OR does SE not like me?

It may be in how I start the capture. I think I was starting from the beginning of the tape where there was no audio information, or for that matter no video either, and clicking record at the same time. I just now started the tape rolling with valid info on it and then pressed record, and I now have the 48k/16bit. This is good!

There are no capture settings because it is simply copying from the tape to the hard drive.
There may have been garbage at the beginning of the tape that confused the capture panel. I would have expected Autochop to correct this if it had been enabled.
If you can repeat this, make sure to report the problem using the web tech support link in the start menu and include clear steps to reproduce it if at all possible.
If tech support determines that these reports look like bugs, then they are sent to me to fix for a future update.
We are trying to be very aggressive with our updates, so report any problems you can repeat.

John and All:
When digitizing a used tape the format recorded at the begining of the tape sets the scenario for the rest of the tape.
A good point is a tape is the LP mode, when you play back the standard SP following, it plays double speed.
Always start in a good part of the tape.
bulk erase works good and gets rid of the garbage.
