When boasting of and recommending SpeedEDIT's capabilities. What is the most accurate current and prospective reply when asked whether SE is 8bit or not?
Does one say "it would be customary due to it's heritage to expect it to be at least 8bit but remember this is accurate in today's tape-format/compression/broadcasting world in that it is YUV+alpha 4:4:4:4" ? Or is it floating-point per channel YUV internally?
If the input codec presents RGBA-10bit-per-channel - what happens next? Would uncompressed 10bit anything be transferred in a passthrough way by the time the renderer is reached?
If the pipeline topped out at 8bit, would any part of the translation process (assuming it is done by SE rather than being requested to be drawn in as YUY2-8bit-packed from the de-codec) have any salient qualities worth boasting about? ;)
I half fielded a question about MXF in that I've read on the forums that it isn't supported yet, there is a workaround but the future support is still unknown. As is the norm for not announcing future features, especially if the discussions about where it will be licensed from having yet taken place.
As for the question over the pipeline and the translation process now that would still be an interesting one to answer and to assist with the endorsement of SpeedEDIT to the video and film fraternity. Beyond the reach of it's existing widely casting net.
