I just got my new laptop for SpeedEdit if you can call it a laptop. It's more like a Mobile Workstation . With a 20" LCD display it is pretty big as well as somewhat heavy at 17.2 lbs but when you consider it has the large display and built in sound system with subwoofer I can understand why. The Display is nothing short of stunning when viewing HD video.:) And the sound was full with plenty of bottom end. It also has 2 120 GB SATA harddrives and an HD-DVD compliant player . It is also fast . I was able to play back 3 HDV clips in Speed Edit with out any stuttering with the BG render turned off. Another nice feature is you can capture analog video .

For the price of $2795 it seems like a really good buy.

Here are the Specs:
Acer Aspire 9810
Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T7400 (4MB L2 cache, 2.16GHz, 667MHz FSB)
20.1" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) TFT display CrystalBrite Technology
NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7600 graphics, 256MB VRAM
2 GB (1/1) DDR2 667 SDRAM
2 120 SATA hard drives 240 GB total
Integrated HD DVD-ROM drive
5-in-1 card reader
1394 Firewire
USB 2
802.11a/b/g WLAN
Bluetooth® Bluetooth® VoIP phone
gigabit LAN, V.92 modem
Webcam camera
Mpeg Analog Video Capture from S-video /Composite or Built in TV Tuner

I though about that one but i keep hearing that the 667 mem speed is not good.
that was one reason i wont get the new intel mac because of the memory speed. it would be nice to hear if thats not the case.

Interesting NOTE, I seen this computer on BUY.COM and it says
it is DISCONTINUED, wonder why ?

I've been a big fan of Acer laptops. We have 6 here and have not had one problem in 2 years. Unfortunately I can't say the same for their AL line of LCD's. Horrid for editing but I'm stuck with them for a while.

There was one of these in PC world last week. Screen was INCREDIBLE is only a little low res for my liking.

I tried to lift it and almost couldn't. If if ever broke you could just use it as arm weights!

For that money thought, there isnt much better. The 21" Dell notebook things are like $4000 and the 19" Alienware ones are way too much money also!

I am using a Dell M90
17" @ 1920x1200
Quadro FX3500M (512MB)
Core2Duo 7600
4GB ram
100GB HDD @ 10kRPM
Works like a dream for everything from SpeedEdit, Lightwave, Houdini and Maya
And it's more portable at around 8lb :)
