Yep, it's official... My videocard sucks! When I bought my laptop I thought it should be ok, not king of the hill, but ok. But I just realized I can't do 1280x720 60p even if I set the render cache on. It renders but still stutters. I can do 3 color corrected, HDV layers with DVEs for all in realtime without a glitch if I do 1280x720 24p, but 60p is a no go, and performance will not improve or degrade if I add more layers. Oh well, I'll have to sell my laptop and buy one with a better card (I'll have to go 17").

Which GPU do you have in your laptop now ?
May I suggest trying out a sample file on the new one you want....there are so many shared resources with the laptop these days...and we had a NEW 17" lap top with a QuadroFX that did NOT live up to expectations....
Cheers,

It's an ati mobility radeon X1600. I thought it should work ok. It's actually the best ati card you can get in a laptop smaller than 17". I can't believe editing HD takes a more powerful card than playing F.E.A.R. does. My card makes 2300 3d marks in 3DMark06. Btw, if the QuadroFX in a laptop did not live up to expectations, all hope is lost. You can't do better than that.
What hard drive do you have in there?
Alod have you looked a www.videohardware.com and their laptops?

What size was your output window? Did you try making it smaller?

Yep, tried making the window smaller... No change. I can't get 60p to work at any resolution, not even 720x360. It refuses to work even with the video cache. It's weird. The machine is actually very fast, so the video card must be the culprit.
My video drive is a LaCie Big Disk Extreme firewire 800, and the streams I'm trying to get to work are HDV 24F. I can set my project as 1280x720 60p and a single naked clip plays fine, but if I add DVE's or color correction, it refuses to play, even if it gets prerendered. Weird, huh?

“Alod have you looked a www.videohardware.com and their laptops?”
Indeed there are some capable laptops out there including video hardware’s offering. However for about the same money and an additional 4lbs weight you can have a mobile box. It a shuttle based system as is the Tricaster using fast drives video cards. Oh by the way SpeedEDIT and 3DA are FREE.
You can see it here! http://www.comp-connection.com/SpeedEdit_systems_main.htm
We are not in the habit of selling on this forum; however the search for capable laptops can be a tough one. So we are making this offering in the Mobile arena.
We have been a Newtek Reseller since 1988!
We also sell Newtek Video Products exclusively…
