So the special sale price of SpeedEdit to LW owners is coming to an end soon, the boss is pondering, and at this price, it seems no brainer.
But, its still so new, with so little to see in action. The "watch" video tab under the "buy" tab doesnt work.
Users, is SpeedEdit the real deal?
Am I looking at a Final Cut Pro for $300? Or more of a Adobe Premiere with AfterEffects built in?
What can I expect to do with it?

What can I expect to do with it?
Thats sort of a LOADED QUESTION, there's lots its does and
depending on who you ask alot it can't do right now!!
What do you need it to be able to do ?
It's a extreamly FAST EDITOR, it's handles alot of different formats,
BUT THERE ARE FORMATS IT DOESNT HANLDE "RIGHT NOW".
this is an issue for many people, if you read the SE forums
you will see more issue's then cheer's.
BUT AGAIN, perception is everything, this is a 1.0 version, it is
pretty much VT Editor unbundled, its very powerful for alot
of things and does alot of things extreamly well.
hope this offers a little insite to this delicate question :)

Well, I would think of it more like Grass Valley's EDIUS 4. Featurewise that's a much closer match.

Thanks guys. I am reading your (scorpio) post about the differences between SE and Vegas right now. Prob coulda read this before this post. Lots to read.
Not that it matters, the boss already bought a copy of SpeedEdit. I am too much of a newtek loyalist to not have SE.
I am excited to work with it. I have been hack and slash video editing with software not meant to do that type of stuff for too long (like "editing" in Tmpgenc dvd author, just to convert back to avi in DVDx).

Thanks, meatwad is a great character, and ATHF is a great (albeit bizarre) cartoon.
Question, do I really need to install Windows XP on my machine. The whole dept was running Win 2000 when this system was built. Its still a very good machine, and worth keeping (dual 2.66 ghz Xeons with 2 gb ram)?
In a way, this gives me a reason to finally upgrade from a dieing OS.
But the transfer of all the files, the re-installs, the tracking down of old software...what a pain.
