Hey guys, I have a pretty old version of LightWave 3D (5.6c)... It only supports Microsoft 95,98,2000, and NT, and I was wondering if there was a patch or something for it so it will run on XP? 8~ I’m not the smartest kid on the block, and I have no clue if there’s a way and I just don’t know about it, or if its just not possible... Any help will be and is greatly appreciated!

Im trying to install it, and I can get it to where it starts the setup... but then it asks for a dongle thing... All I have is the CD... and a some "Rainbow Technologies Sentinel SuperPro" thing and a cord that connects to it... I know I prolbably sound stupid saying this... But what am I supposed to connect the other end of the cord to...?

Lightwave 5.x used the parallel port dongle. I assume that is what you are referring to. You need to plug it into your parallel port. If your machine is a newer machine that doesn't have one, you won't be able to run Lightwave.

Yes, this usually happens when people dont want to pay for software, unfortunately Lightwave costs money, this is how you get a dongle.

The "Rainbow Technologies Sentinel SuperPro" thing is the dongle. It's a little piece of hardware right?

Uhm.... Excuse me lardbros, but are you saying I illegally downloaded Lightwave? Because if you are, you are very wrong... My dad bought Lightwave a couple years ago, and I DON’T really like it when people accuse people for stuff they have NO clue what they are talking about... So next time, if your not going to help me, don’t say anything... OK? Because that is only making you look bad, especially when you are wrong...
Anyways!~
Yeah bloontz, its a little attachment thingy... here is a picture of what its like below...
(Since I'm not sure if they allow open images, here is a link... I would rather not get in trouble over a picture of a dongle :foreheads )

Not that it makes much difference, but that is the exact thing I have, except mines blue... I also have a cord that attaches to it, and it has another end to attach to something else... What am I supposed to plug it into?

Well, I had a dongle, but the dongle goes to another program... My brother just told me (now that he got home) he lost the Lightwave dongle in Arizona... No wonder why that other one didn’t work... Well thanks for the help guys! If I had the right dongle, I would have been using Lightwave as we speak...Leave it to my brother to do such a thing :compbeati (replace computer with my brothers head) :hey:

That picture in your link is a parallel port dongle. You say you have a parallel port so why haven't you tried plugging it in and running Lightwave?

I did plug it in and tried to install it, but it kept saying the dongle wasn’t there... I found out like an hour ago that I was using a dongle for 3d studio *duh*... not Lightwave 3d... This would explain why I thought it needed to connect to something else, and why it just didn’t work... I wish I saw that before... Would have saved me some trouble! Anyways, my older brother told me (when he got home from work) he lost it (it being the Lightwave 3D dongle) at my grandparent’s house in Arizona... So I don't think I am going to be able to use it... haha =(

Ok, my apologies.
Should have said, contact tech support if you've lost your dongle. They can replace it with a new one for a small fee. Also doesn't cost much to upgrade these days, so its worth considering coz 9.2 is an amazing upgrade!
