I'm a professional editor. I 've used Jaleo (SGI platform), Premiere Pro, Edius, Vegas, Final Cut Pro for years.
I got a copy of SE yesterday, and tested this new editing system for hours.
I have to tell that SE is the best Non-linear editing software on PC platform so far!
SE is a powerful tool for professional user.

P.S, I'm using a Decklink I/O card, when can I use this card to capture, print and preview on my monitor?

Nice to hear that :)

Decklink I/O isn't likely anytime, yet alone anytime soon. So everything except preview is possible at each end of your workflow.

One fix might be to request that Decklink present their card to the windows display subsystem as a standard graphics adapter. This has some relevance going forward for the BlackMagic Infinity card. However you'll need a machine with at least the performance of a VT[5] min spec to achieve a PRINT via WUXGA 60i or 60p.

I like NewTek's SpeedEDIT also. I'm going to concentrate my workflow around it for the next few projects (subject to remedying my broken PC that I've prematurely activated by copy onto!). I'll likely use Vegas and DVDArchitect along the way but I'll establish my future workflows best by finding what fits by tying my Sony Creative Software hand behind my back. :)

That's what its been doing for ages... doesn't help though since it isn't hardware accelerated, thus now DirectX and thus now SE preview... :(

Well, there have been mentions of a VT plugin for SE in one of the press releases. Maybe NT will release SDK information on how to write a preview plugin then.

Cheers,
Mike

Blackmagic released Decklink SDK. May NT write a plugin for Decklink user

Quote:

DeckLink SDK 6.1.1 for Windows XP & Server 2003
07 May 2007
Includes documentation for programming DeckLink cards with DirectShow in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. It documents our custom interfaces for alpha keying and deck control, and includes sample code for capture, playback and keying. This SDK is to be used in conjunction with the DeckLink 6.1.1 for Windows drivers. It supports all models of DeckLink cards and Multibridge PCIe models in 32-bit editions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

In that case the decklink drivers need to be modified so that the raw GPU/shader functionality on your PCIexpress (for full-duplex card->PC transfer rate) needs to be tapped. So the directx becomes accelerated through the services of the more capable card in the machine.

I confess that I wouldn't know if this resource requirement would break or require a patched microsoft driver as far as directx is concerned.

On the assumption that NewTek want you to buy their (future) HD hardware - the only other option I can think of right now would be a DVI/HDMI to HD-SDI converter. Again, this assumes your machine isn't dropping fields/frames in either timeline preview or playback of previously rendered footage.
