I really think we should be able to hear our audio while capturing DV and HDV.

I've used a number of NLEs, and SpeedEDIT is the only one that doesn't let you hear what you are capturing.

Also, why are we restricted to a tiny thumbnail for the capture window, shouldn't we be able to see what we're capturing bigger than that?

Again, when I compare to other NLEs...

I second that. It would be extremely helpful to hear when we're capturing.

Double Seconded re. audio and native media resolution monitor (with auto scale to fit window for HD, etc.)

I was about to post a msg asking if there's something wrong with my hardware setup/soundcard/drivers/etc, due to this being such a standard thing.

John P. ... WHY was SE designed not to preview audio coming in via firewire/usb2? It's there in the stream. It's vitally important just as much as the video is.... so... <expectant expression on face, listening>...

PLEASE Newtek! Add this feature to the capture.

Also the capture window should display the incoming aspect ratio and details of what it is capturing in terms of resolution/aspect ratio and perhaps frame rate of the input type.

I don't see a way to get audio monitoring and realtime scopes running with the current version of SpeedEdit, but it does support larger on-screen monitoring of video while it is being captured, it's just not utilized by the default capture interface.

I was thinking about this recently while riding shotgun on a road trip and rolled together a capture skin that gives full resolution DV capture or vertically squeezed full horizontal res for wide screen use. Should work with HDV as well (but it will show at DV resolution.)

On my well aged 2Ghz P4 notebook it can't keep up the full frame rate on-screen, but captures DV without dropped frames or audio loss.

It needs SE 1.5.1 (haven't tested with 5.5 but don't expect problems) to run, and doesn't work with SpeedEdit VT (VT and 1.5 or earlier don't have User Skins folders and crash if you add them in.)

You can download it here if you want to test drive - http://www.corin.com/wipes/dvmon.shtml

If it turns out usefull to enough folks I'll put the time into it to make it scale cleanly to other resolutions with aspect ratio and scale presets or locks as well (first test version I did was set up for free-form resizing, and it worked fine.)

I have SE 1.5.5 installed on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. Asside from the fact that the Newtek folder is, of course, located in the c:/program files(x86) folder...when I go to Skins/Capture panel, the User Skins folder doesn't exist. I added it and it seems to work fine, although I haven't tried capturing anything yet. I'm not sure if the missing folder is because 1.5.5 is slightly different from 1.5.1 or if it's because it's a 64bit OS. Hopefully I'll get a chance to actually capture some footage later this week.

In any event, thanks for putting this out there for the SE community!

Thanks for the heads-up to that. I built this a few weeks ago, but didn't get to bundling it all together for release until yesterday. I suspect I added the User Skins folder myself, and just forgot doing it. I've updated the install instructions accordingly.

It's on SpeedEdit VT that I've run into VT[5] simply quitting if I open Capture Panel while the skin is installed - since VT[5] is based on an earlier release of SpeedEdit, I'd expect similar may occur with older versions.

Glad to do it, thanks.
