I am seeing way too much use of "old film effect" on TV and other video productions. It is getting way overused. They have all of this new HD technology to obtain wonderful crystal clear high definition images and what do they do with it, make it look like technology from the 60's.

I can't find the link, but there is a well defined phenomena where people hold on to the past in terms of technology. If I remember correctly, most of us still have many of our earlier computers even if they don't work. I kept my Osborne 2 through several moves, but rationalized it by thinking it would be an antique someday. Gone now, and I miss it. How many old appliances do you have in storage?
We just don't trust the future. A shame, really.
So true Rich. Shakey video, overexposed highlights, adding noise, all to give the video that "edgy" look.
I don't mind so much if it's motivated, but more often then not, it's not.
Have you seen the new Sonic spots?

I don't mind so much if it's motivated, but more often then not, it's not. It's "art", don'tcha know? If art had to look good or make sense, there'd be a lot more people making a living as squeegee kids. ;)

True, it is art when used in the right place at the right time.

One thing that bugs me about spending big money on a HD TV is that the
content still is just as crappy as it was on my old set.

Except now, if you get HD service with cable or satelite - or watch major sports, it is even worse than it used to be, because it is being shot in 16:9, but framed in 4:3 safe zones.
Rule of thirds? What's that?
