I wanted to do a 3D scene using everyday objects as my inspiration...

The mate cup & bombilla were modeled in LightWave, then imported into Maya for scene set-up and shading. The gourd texture was painted in Painter, and the silver shader was created using procedurals and ramps. The cloth texture was a hi-res scan of some material I have from South America and applied to a sculpted nurbs surface. The scene was rendered in mental ray, and imported into After Effects where Trapcode's Starglow filter was applied to add a soft glow to the metal. The final render from AE was then brought into Photoshop for a DOF composite effect.

I think I would rather see the DOF applied to the first render in LW than applied as a last-stage effect in Photoshop. Somehow it looks a bit circular to me, rather than showing true Z-axis depth.

nice and realistic, but bombilla seems very shiny. some scratches would be right for it.

Looks very nice! Especialy the black surface of the pot looks cool.

A cew crits:
- Better use a displacement map for the relief of the patern in the silver collar. The left and right side of the collar is ruining the illusion right now.
- The texturemap of the drapery is far too low.

The silver is awsome!

I really like it. Nice texturing. The relief design in the silver is especially nice.
I drink Yerba Mate myself. I wonder when Starbucks will offer it....:hey:
