I'm perplexed. I posted a thread on what I felt were SE bugs, and it disappeared. What happened?

If you made the same mistake I have made on a number of occasions, that would explain it....

That particular mistake is hitting the "preview" button instead of the "post button" and then leaving the resulting page with the back button and thinking the message posted.
