View Full Version : Creating fading titles?

Hi folks,
Probably a simple one this, but I'm scratching my head trying to find a solution. Is there any way to fade a cg title in/out once placed on the timeline? Just suddenly appearing and disappearing looks a bit naff, so I thought it would be good to apply a dve of some sort to the beginning and end of the title. However, I've not found a way of doing it so far...
Thanks,
Iain

DVE's cannot be applied directly to CG overlays (or any other overlay) in SE or VT-EDIT. However, if you expand the Control Tree's "Layer Properties" group, and click on the Positioner tab below the right-hand pane, you will find you can use the usual complement of positioning, fade, and rotation controls to create many effects.

And if you just want to fade in and out, you can do that right on the timeline, by hovering the mouse around the front or back end of the CG page, until it says "fade" then drag that towards the center of the clip for the amount of time that you want the fade to take.

And once you set up one CG with the fade in and fade out you want, you can save those characteristics into the ToolShed and easily apply it to all your CG pages whenever you want.
Actually, I'm quite happy with the CG capabilities in SpeedEDIT 1.2.
The bugs are fixed and the CG compares well to what comes with other NLEs.

In Premiere Pro you can apply dve effects to the titles so that instead of just fading, you can have ripples, wipes etc. I was hoping I could do the same in SpeedEdit, but it seems not.
Perhaps this is one for the feature requests forum :)

DVEs on overlays has been on the wishlist for a long time already, Iain. FWIW, you can do it now, sort of ... render the CG and replace it on the timline with the rdner, and then can apply DVEs. No transparent backgrounds with this approach though.

Fair enough. Sounds like I'll have to wait a while then ;)
I'll give the workaround a go though...

Could you elaborate a little Eugene? Since I assume this software will be migrated over to VT5, I am curious as to what has been fixed/added. Thank you in advance!

Nothing added, just the bugs in the CG that were in SpeedEDIT 1.0 are fixed.
Flashing scrolls, copying CGs internal in project problems, whole bunch of bugs are gone.
